NBA Off Topic Thread
It's sexual assault allegations though. I don't think there was a positive to make regardless of how liked he is. He didn't actually "come out" he's being accused of assault by a man, and in his messages to the dude he does the opposite of coming out, he tells the dude he's not gay just nasty sometimes lol.
And to most of y’all it’s new but I remember hearing the noise back when he was in DC and missed half of the season due to getting *** surgery and how that ended up happening. Had a whole twitter thread and everything with receipts at the time. But I get why it seems “new” now to folks.
He’s getting cooked now because he’s trying to play both sides. And FWIW, what he likes/his preferences don’t bother me one bit. But him doing these videos online serves no purpose lol
There was nice lil stretch from the time he left Orlando to going back to LA the 2nd time around where he wasn’t liked or cared for by players/fans alike and they made that known.
Hell, this place used to be unanimous in its dislike for him. Wasn’t until he got that Covid Ring before he started to get liked/appreciated by people again lol.Last edited by ProfessaPackMan; 10-26-2023, 07:00 PM.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
I actually remember him being well liked in the beginning, then he started bitching and whining about wanting out of Orlando and the straw that broke the camel's back was when he opted in to go back to the Magic, it went down hill quick after that.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

He was just a goofy, "immature" guy like Shaq (funnily enough), but the difference is he didn't win enough.
Mind you I'm no different, but people find the silliest and most arbitrary reasons to like or dislike someone.
Prior to leaving Orlando Dwight was one of the 'most liked' players in the league, but that all flipped when he got to LA, and the Kobe Bryant BS/"feud" hurt his reputation. It never recovered, but he's never truly been 'hateable,' IMO.

NBA Off Topic Thread
Nitpicking over semantics at this point lol but either way, there was a stretch where he wasn’t liked by folks.
Once he got to Atlanta, Charlotte and DC, most stopped checking for him and the jokes kinda subsided. When he returned to LA all humble and ****(compared to his first tenure there)and won a championship, that’s when that fanbase(and the Kobe stans as well)pretty much forgave him and then everyone else started to appreciate him again.Last edited by ProfessaPackMan; 10-27-2023, 01:50 PM.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
In the NHL a player just got suspended 41 games for "reasons relating to sports betting".
Knowing the NHL, it's a bigger story than they're letting on and trying to dust it under the rug as much as possible.
Which brings me to my point in the NBA...
There's no way a single hockey player is the only guy doing this.
I bring this up in the NBA thread because a single person's actions influence the game much more in basketball than any other major team sport. People have always joked about refs "calling games based on the betting line", but it does make you wonder with all these things being much easier/legal if there's more funny business happening that we don't know about.Comment

At this point even fans have been conditioned to not see it as being as problematic as it is. It's like, "yeah, but did they even bet on their own team? Oh they did... but did they bet against them? If not, who cares?"Last edited by dubcity; 10-27-2023, 03:22 PM.Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
I'm sure it has happened or will will happen, and I'm sure the NBA (like all other leagues who are getting a ton of money from gambling) will do their best to bury anything that pop ups. And would we even be able to rely on the media to call it out? They have advertising too. It would take an all time idiotic move by a player to make it a story for more than a day.

But I think the issue would be more of "they did bet on ___, whose to say they haven't bet AGAINST their own team that we haven't found out about, or they had their friends bet against them", which isn't something the league can't really stop, but it definitely won't be something they like.Comment

Besides the personal stuff, the Dwight Howard talk is also a reminder of how awful Orlando has been for a decade.Comment

I agree he wasn't really hateable, fans gave him the disappointed parent treatment more than anythingComment
