And look at the shape of all star weekend pre 2000. TNT might have taken over in 1990, but all star weekend before 2000 was dying. 3 point contest wasn't as notable as it is now, the dunk contest was cancelled in favour of 2 ball, that's how irrelevant it was. Even without Vince that 2000 contest was great, but he obviously put it over the top.

Who knows what it'll be like beginning next year. If the game flops on Sunday, next year might have the lowest hype this weekend has ever gotten

I still hope they find something for the Inside guys to do. Can't do exclusive NBA game coverage, but surely they could still put together a weekly studio show talking basketball and other stuff.

Yeah I fell asleep during the 3 point contest. Woke up to the dunk contest. My wife was like he's done the same dunk over and over here

Glad they got DQed for it, but that goes to show how little guys care about this. Sure, Paul was pleading the whole time about the decision, but if you don't care enough to compete and instead try to be clever and cheat to win, you don't deserve it.

They sent Ali to interview the Spurs and the NBA rep who was there was like "nope" and she left.
Trying to cheat to win a meaningless game. That's just some peak Gen Z nonsense from Wemby lol.

That feels more like a Paul move than a Wemby one. Don't think Wemby is gonna try doing that in his first full all star weekend. Paul on the other hand knows he won't face repercussions. Wemby did say that he felt like people were only booing Paul for it.

We've definitely seen guys chuck up lots of random shots, but they've at least tried once or twice before. This one they had 0 intention of doing the challenge AND everyone else would've just followed suit for the entire comp.

But also funny now thinking in 10+ years from now we'll look back on Wembys career and almost forget he played with Chris Paul on the Spurs and the one main highlight from their time together will be this.

            LeBron won't play tonight.

If he knew he was injured, why not announce it sooner so someone else could get a spot.

Re: February All Star Trade Regular Season Discussion

Based on the first to 40 rule, the fact this is an ASG, and seeing the pregame taking this long, they're definitely not expecting these games to go more than 15 minutes each are they? Feels like a lot of filling airtime.

But a nice tribute to Inside the NBAs all star coverage with that video package.

Kevin: I couldn't hear you Chuck over the sweat all over your lips.

Barkely: Maybe you could've heard me if you were taller.

For those keeping track, first game took about 22 minutes of real time. So basically these 3 games will take about an hour or so of real time, so a 3 hour ASG broadcast has under an hour of actual game time (closer to 40 mins when you factor in commercials). Definitely see ratings tanking for this.

That kid hitting the 3 for 100k at the tv timeout buzzer was the most exciting part of the game so far.

I'm sure Adam Silver is happy. Steph goes on the mic and says he took a nap before his game (ie during game 1)

If they continue with this format, does the NBA just at some point stop calling this "the All-Star Game" and only ever refer to it as the "ASG," like KFC did? It's 3 separate games.

Actually I see that they're referring to the last game as the All-Star Championship. OK...

They better not continue this format. This has been the worst one yet in terms of actual time devoted to the game.

2 hours of the broadcast has featured 35 minutes of the actual game.

What better way to celebrate to sport than ... to not actually play the sport lol. But they had Mr Beast out there with some kind of nonsense, so I guess all we need is the celebrity involvement at this point smh.

Despite how it went, I still want to see USA vs World in a full game.

Each game took about 15 minutes of real time which I guess is close enough to a full 48 when you add it up, but 45 minutes of the broadcast being games and the other 2 hours being ads/fillers felt like such a rip off.

The NBA needs an overhaul to say the least. The ASG should just be scrapped. First to 40. Was a complete waste of time.

It may be one of the L.A. games postponned because of the LA fires.
