When Shawn Kemp was the man....
....and was my favorite player in the L. That's why when I see Amare, I yawn and say "Seen this all before."

Biased is not even close to describe that.... Lets see what how this season turns out before we day Stoudamire is better than Kemp. Kemp had the best chance of beating the Bulls then any other PF during the dynasty run. That includes Malone and Barkely as well.Comment

Re: When Shawn Kemp was the man....
I think the reason why some people put Amarie over Kemp is simply because you are watching Amarie right now. He's one of the "it" Power Forwards in the league. The cameras are on him, hes on the highlight reels, etc. All of this hype (not saying hes overrated, just talking about how the media hypes all the good young players) affects peoples reasoning as far as who is or was better. Could Amarie end up better than Kemp, sure. his upside is enormous, but is Amarie right now better than Kemp at his best. Nope. But its hard for people to see that because Kemp isnt 25 anymore and you dont get to see him today do what he was doing back in 95.__________________________________________________ ____

Re: When Shawn Kemp was the man....
I remember Kemp back when he busted in the league, as a Suns fan I remember him well but like I said, I'm bias on this one but it's my opinion. Amare is putting up equivalent numbers(slightly less in some categories) now than in Kemps peak. Yes, numbers are not everything but Amare has bigger potential and has developed at a quicker pace than Kemp did.Comment

Re: When Shawn Kemp was the man....
We will see with time, but he definately is the closest thing we have seen to Shawn Kemp in a while.
Kemp was one of the greats until the trade happened which screwed up the nucleus of the Seattle Sonics, I still believe that he could make it as a borderline HOF.
Just think about it for minute, We might be talkin about the Seattle Sonics as one of the best teams of all-time if they pulled it out against the Bulls.Last edited by Chewingthehardfacts; 04-25-2005, 04:01 PM.XBOX 360 is my GodComment

Re: When Shawn Kemp was the man....
I was a huge Kemp fan before he got fat.
If he didn't hit the wall (or too many vaginas) I would have said he was one of the best PF's of all-time. He was at his peak between 92-96. I can still hear Kevin Calabro yelling out another thunderous dunk by the Reign Man.
I've watched him play since the first day he entered the league in 89 and it's a shame how his life is in shambles right now. I believe he got busted for coke around a month ago.
I don't expect him to live another 20 years.
I felt like the Sonics got screwed over by the playoff format vs. the Bulls in 96. The first 2 games were in Chicago and then the next 3 were in Seattle. A best of 7 should always be 2-2-1-1-1. The Sonics dropped the first 3 games but they stomped the Bulls in Game 4. The was the biggest beatdown the Bulls took that year. Too bad the Sonics ran out of steam in the 4th quarter in Game 6, because heading in I thought they would end up winning in 7.Last edited by VanCitySportsGuy; 04-25-2005, 04:40 PM.Comment

Re: When Shawn Kemp was the man....
Yeah man, Shawn Kemp just could not be stopped. He was more athletic than Amare, was bigger than Amare, and he just overpowered people at a time when there were more big men playing. Although Amare is still only 20 or 21, he can get to the Kemp level if he keeps bulking up.Comment
