His skills far excedded Amare...give Amare a few more years then have this discussion. Payton, Hawk, Schrempf, Kemp, and Perkins could wipe the floor with Nash, Joe, Q, Marion, and Amare IMO. 96 Supes own 05 Suns.
Did I say Amare was better McFly!? Go back and quote where I said that. All I said was that Kemp was not in a league with Malone or Barkley. Malone had much better post moves, a better J, was just as intimidating defensively, and not far behind getting to the hole. Barkley was a better man to man defender, better rebounder, had a better all-around offensive game. Let's not even talk about other big men such as Hakeem, D-Rob, Ewing, and a young Shaq(or KG and Duncan for that matter). But those years from 92-96, he was excellent and was a 20/10 guy.

I'm not saying that Amare is better than Kemp, but Amare did average 21 ppg on 47% fg shooting with a horrible team and Amare's jumpshot is improving he can make some outside jumpers though it is still not automatic. Also I wasn't able to watch Shawn Kemp as a youngster but it seems like Amare has put up better stats (yes stats aren't everything.) However I agree Amare has to make a few improvements (rebounding, shooting, low post game) as well to become really good.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

You're acting like everyone in here is calling Shawn Kemp the greatest PF of all-time. Everybody knows Barkley, Malone and those other big men were better, so stop saying the same stuff over and over again. We're just saying that in his time, he was very good, almost great player and was clearly the best athlete in the league.

Kemp played in a better league against better and more powerful big men.

That's all I'm going to say about that.

I realized that there were probably circumstances why Kemp didn't post as good numbers and I don't think Amare is better than Kemp from what all you guys are describing. IMHO Amare has to work on a few things to become really good as I mentioned above.

Funny, Kemp never averaged more than 20.5 a game and the one time he did average more than 20 a game he didn't average 10 boards a game.

I remember Kemp, I remember how good he was but only averaged more than 20 once in his career, in a higher scoring league as a whole. Numbers aren't everything but just wanted to let you know....

Please don't take this personal, its just my opinion:

You say you remember Kemp but you're quoting all these stats.

IMO, most of the people (99.9%) who really remember Kemp don't need to go dig up stats to be able to discern what a powerful player he was or how good he is compared to any other post player in the league right now. You just remember him dunking on fools with the thunder (with the rim snapping back and you waiting for the glass to shatter) and then you go, "Oh yeah, yeah, now I remember. Nah, Amare ain't quite there yet."

I don't think there's any harm in admitting that, regardless of whether or not a person is a Suns fan.

No offense taken but to exaggerate his numbers like that, c'mon. There's no need to do that because you're right, he was a monster just don't come in here(not you) and exaggerate his numbers because they just don't measure up.

Kemp was a beast and he would infuriate me with his play against the Suns, much respect for him on the court.

He still is the man!! Poor Shawn.

According to court papers, when the deputy approached the truck, the driver's door was open and a strong smell of marijuana was coming from inside the vehicle. Kemp initially said the pair had smoked marijuana earlier and there was none in the vehicle, but later told the deputy there was "a bag full," in the truck.

Yeah, I guess when people x-aggerate the numbers it does make you pull out the stat sheet.

The cameras are on him, hes on the highlight reels, etc. All of this hype (not saying hes overrated, just talking about how the media hypes all the good young players) affects peoples reasoning as far as who is or was better. Could Amarie end up better than Kemp, sure. his upside is enormous, but is Amarie right now better than Kemp at his best. Nope. But its hard for people to see that because Kemp isnt 25 anymore and you dont get to see him today do what he was doing back in 95.

No,I think people are putting Amare over Kemp is because they all remember the post lockout Pillsbury doughboy Shawn Kemp. Before the lockout Kemp was the man. Kemp was doing everything Stoudamire is doing now, only he had a consistent jump shot.
