Re: When Shawn Kemp was the man....

You know, just looking at numbers, I think that Amare's progression mirrors Karl Malone's (arguably the greatest PF of all time) more than it does Shawn Kemp. Truthfully, I haven't read thru this entire thread, so I don't really know what was discussed, but like I said, just looking at numbers.

Thru the first three years of Malone, Kemp and Amare.

    Shawn Kemp
    6.5 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 0.3 apg, 0.58 spg, 0.86 bpg, .479 fg%, .736 ft%, 1.32 topg, 81 games @ 13.8 mpg
    15.0 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 1.8 apg, 0.95 spg, 1.52 bpg, .508 fg%, .661 ft%, 2.49 topg, 81 games @ 30.1 mpg
    15.5 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.09 spg, 1.94 bpg, .504 fg%, .748 ft%, 2.44 topg, 64 games @ 28.3 mpg

    Karl Malone
    14.9 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.30 spg, 0.54 bpg, .496 fg%, .481 ft%, 3.44 topg, 81 games @ 30.6 mpg
    21.7 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.27 spg, 0.73 bpg, .512 fg%, .598 ft%, 2.89 topg, 82 games @ 34.8 mpg
    27.7 ppg, 12.0 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.43 spg, 0.61 bpg, .520 fg%, .700 ft%, 3.96 topg, 82 games @ 39.0 mpg

    Amare Stoudemire
    13.5 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 1.0 apg, 0.76 spg, 1.06 bpg, .472 fg%, .661 ft%, 2.30 topg, 82 games @ 31.3 mpg
    20.6 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.16 spg, 1.62 bpg, .475 fg%, .713 ft%, 3.22 topg, 55 games @ 36.8 mpg
    26.0 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.6 apg, 0.96 spg, 1.63 bpg, .559 fg%, .733 ft%, 2.36 topg, 80 games @ 36.1 mpg

Averages after each in their first 3 years.
    Kemp
    12.3 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 1.1 apg, 0.87 spg, 1.44 bpg, .497 fg%, .715 ft%, 2.08 topg, 75.3 games @ 24.1 mpg
    Malone
    21.4 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.33 spg, 0.63 bpg, .509 fg%, .504 ft%, 3.43 topg, 81.7 games @ 31.5 mpg
    Stoudemire
    20.0 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.3 apg, 0.96 spg, 1.44 bpg, .502 fg%, .702 ft%, 2.6 topg, 72.3 games @ 34.7 mpg

Other than assists, steals and TOs, Amare is a lot closer to Malone than Kemp. I don't know if this is a fair comparison, since everyone's situation is different, but that's what I see. It's amazing to me tho that Kemp's career high in ppg for a season is 20.5 ppg.

Amare better final conclusion, Kemp was good for that time period and played on a good team, people forget that Payton was the best player on that team.

Malone was a solid passer and had a great mid range J.When Amare develops those skills he'll be more like KM32...

I hope nbastupidstar isn't ruining my thread.

I want to see Amare's game outside the paint more and his ability to take over games before I put him ahead of Kemp.

Amare is more athletic than Kemp, I never thought I would say that about a power forward, but its true. He is comparable to Shaq in the fact that once he catches the ball in the paint, you are dead.

P2K, wake up man, everybody who faces the thruth knows that Amare better then Kemp, Kemp could only do so little while Amare can do alot. At this rate the sky is the limit for Amare as for Kemp the limit wasn't that high. I really hope you didn't think Kemp was better then Payton though.

To homeage where it's due, Shawn Kemp was one of the frist super Athletic Power Forwards of his time, and because of that grew lots of hype. I loved watching him play, but also realized he's not that good. Amare>Kemp, Duncan, Garnett or Malone>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>*10000000000>Kemp
,Tom Chambers=Kemp, now this is better

Amare seems bigger and stronger than Kemp was in hos prime.

They were the same size in terms of weight and height, but Amare looks like he could get up to 255.

Dude, how about you ask George Karl.....the friggin coach, and see what he says.

If Kemp was put into the Suns system he would've averaged more points than Amare and more rebounds.
