no need to play nice. Some people want to be called fanboy, but it won't be from me.

If you want to compare Live to 2k3 start a new thread. My point is the default pressure is regular for everybody. Default double team is auto for everybody. there is no auto pressure and auto double team in 2k3 isn't reliable.

Now as I said, it'd be nice if the CPU in 2k3 (the game we were talking about) changed these automatically but they don't. Don't scroll, help or leave.

I'm finding 2k3 a real challenge on Pro, although I am playing with the Bulls. I've started out 0-6. I've gotten blown out and had some close ones that went down to the buzzer. I've upped the AI and goofed around with some sliders. Granted, video hoops is probably my worst sport -- I don't know it as well as football or baseball -- so I don't always use the most sound strategies. But I really like 2k3 and can't wait to draft rookies from NCAA Basketball.

I use the High camera for NBA 2k3. With the height set to 2. Very comfortable with these camera settings since I can see everything I need to see. And it's not just about the ease of the game that bugs me. Always doubling a star player is a fundamental part of defensive strategy and the AI doesn't even do that? That's just not right, IMHO. If this game's a sim, they should know that this is how it's done. I can understand if they go to a zone first, but if that doesn't work and then they go back to man to man, they're repeating their same damn problems all over again and not learning to always double the star player because he's torching them. I like a LOT of what NBA 2k3 does now, but the same fundamental problem NBA 2k2 had, is in NBA 2k3. A lot of the defensive schemes and their fundamental defensive strategy are just useless. For example, if I took GREAT care of the ball and wasn't turning over the ball much and I have a HUGE lead, the AI should be trying a different defensive scheme like a half court trap to pressure the ball handler. Or double-teaming the star player all the time so whenever the ball's thrown to him, he's forced to give it back or turn the ball over trying to dribble through the double team. Where's the fun in micromanaging the game? I don't want to do the double teaming for the AI, because that would be pointless, as far as I'm concerned.

You know, part of the fun I have in a game is actually seeing a team RESPOND to the way I play the game. If I micromanage the game, there's no fun in that. It's like I'm challenging myself to beat me. It's a problem Visual Concepts needs to fix, and I hope they do it before thinking about adding new features. Just fix this, and I'd be extremely happy with the game. As it is now, I'm almost forced to just give up scoring opportunities in exchange for a quasi realistic game.

I don't think that always double teaming a star player is a given. Some teams will others won't . double teaming can get you burned. The CPU has doubled me at times and not at others, I haven't had a problem with that.

but is there any rhyme or reason to it? I hate the way the auto double works. I was hoping it was better but I haven't seen it.

That is true, but at least they should try to represent those teams that do double instead of just going into zone or whatever. What if a team doesn't play zone and that's supposed to be represented in NBA 2k3? How are they going to stop a superstar from torching the AI then? They can't, because the AI doesn't adjust to doubling a superstar all the time. Doubling a superstar forces the superstar into bad situations and creates more turnovers, more fast break points etc. It forces the superstar to give up the ball rather then try to make something happen. The double team keeps the superstar from establishing position where he likes to have the ball, and that's why some teams do use it. If the superstar is having his way with getting to his favorite spot and shooting the J or for driving the lane, doubling him will keep him from getting to that spot, and then he has to try other ways to score or help his team score.

NBA IS hella easy, but if you want a challenge, try messin with the sliders, what I do is:
Lets say i play at home, then I would put all the -away- shot percenteges up ALL the way(full), then I put all the A.I. shot tendecies full. Don't mess with any other sliders than these ones. This is on All-Star of course. They make most of their shots, they usually average 95% shooting.

I pull up for jumpers evn though I might have the lane or pump fake and get a open shot. I drive when its absolutely needed or if its a situation that I think that would be a drive I do.
This something I learned from playing video games over the years, self restraint. Cause no matter how good the AI is you eventually find ways to exploit the AI. Like in madden the AI in these games are pretty good and the sliders allow to adjust to some of the money plays. Its a simple game of math if you throw the deep ball every play of the game you are bound to complete at the very least 10 of 40 and those ten you will get scores from some of then. There many ways to beat the AI but I think you have to understand the weaknesses but keep in mind how players play realistic compared to the real life player.

It's all about the steals, I average about 25 stls per game, it's way too easy to steal in the game.

You DO realize I'm talking about the poor defensive AI right? I'm not at all talking about the offensive AI which is great. The defensive AI is the thing that needs to be worked on.

Self restraint doesn't excuse the fact that the defensive AI is just plain poor though. If the AI at least doubled hot players trying to freeze them out of the game, actually switched up defensive schemes and made use of the half court traps and full court traps I could respect that. But they don't, and this is where Visual Concepts needs to work on their game before adding anything else.
