Signs point to Nash being named MVP

    From TSN:

The NBA will announce its MVP on Sunday and, according to the Arizona Republic, that timing points to the Canadian point guard as the winner, edging Miami centre Shaquille O'Neal in one of the tightest races in NBA history.

Here's why: the NBA announced the previous five MVPs when the winners were idle, and on a day before each had a playoff game.

Nash and the Suns are expected to start their second-round playoff series Monday, while Miami was scheduled for a Sunday start depending on the outcome of the Washington-Chicago game Friday.

The last MVP to not receive the award the day before a playoff game was Karl Malone in 1999, when the Utah Jazz were already eliminated.

According to a poll conducted by the Republic, Nash and Shaq were locked in a near dead heat. The newspaper surveyed 106 of the 127 writers and broadcasters who voted for the league's 50th MVP award, and found that Nash had 53 first-place votes while Shaq had 51 votes. (The Suns' Amare Stoudemire and Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs received the other two votes).

I have no objections to it. I wonder how it makes Cuban feel though. You hear about Shaq and Buss alot but this guy wasnt wanted back by Cuban in the long run.

I really do hope this is true, although I wouldn't object if it went either way. Nash would likely be the first and last canadian to win the award...

I am suprised by the fact that this apparently is supposed to be one of the tightest mvp races in history. I dont understand how it wasnt a shoe in for nash.

I dislike nash's game greatly. I think he is a tremendous liability on Defence, and he always gets worn down and shown up by other guards when the games start to count.

However, he had a tremendous effect on phoenix and was easily more valuable to hsi team than any other player in the League.

Cuban and Nash were recently on the radio here (not at the same time) and both said they don't have any ill feelings towards each other. Nash said he hasn't spoken to Cuban since he signed with the Suns though.

Re: Signs point to Nash being named MVP

Nash is the only player to win MVP and not have a chance at getting in the HOF. It's kinda weird to have Steve Nash in the same breath as Jordan, Bird, Magic, Kareem, McAdoo, and Olajuwon.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

If he keeps playing the way he is now for 5-6 more years, why wouldn't he have a chance at getting into the HOF??

I agree with the decision by the way.

Because he's getting older and he really isnt a HOF calibre player

                        You forgot the asterisk

*Stoudamire, Marion, Richardson, Johnson (combined)>>>>>>>>>>> Wade and a bunch of no names

Shaq is the MVP. Steve Nash is a joke. He's done nothing different than he did with the Mavs. This is a complete joke.

                          Your arguments are a joke...

Why don't you look at how they played when he wasn't there.Marion JJ and especially Amare weren't themselves at all.Amare needs him cause Nash does such a great job of drawing the defense and he gives it up at the right time.He may not be great defensively, but no point guard is in the NBA anymore.

There are alot of good defensive PGs.

Stoudamire didn't need Nash to put up those type of numbers. Put Mike Bibby on the team and he'd do relatively the same. You forgot to mention Q-Rich.

The Suns are a team of All-Stars. Who cares about last year.

Like? And please don't name guys who are backups..Cause most of the good defensive point guards can't start as they lack the offensive abilities...

I may be wrong, but isn't he averaging 6 ppg more?

Bibby is a great point guard, but he's never been the type of passer Nash has been and he's always had A LOT of talent.

                              You forgot to mention Q-Rich.
Who was a chuking maniac last year and now has learned to take better shots and gets better looks cause of Nash's penetrating ability.

                              Who cares about last year.
I do because they are basically the same team as last season yet they've made a 31 or so game turnaround and please don't tell me it has to do with Q...While he's a good player,he's always been on losing teams.Oddly enough he has one of his best season's as a pro...When Nash is on the team.
