I don't mind Nash winning, but his situation is no different then Kidd's when he first came to the Nets and Shaq beat him out.

Just a little surprised Nash won it.

I think it was Shaq. Either way, Kidd deserved it more IMO then Nash does this year. nash has a hell of a supporting cast around him.

Only the 6 guard to ever win the award and the lowest draft pick to ever win the award. Nice job Canuck!

The Suns are a team of All-Stars. Who cares about last year.
Whats Miami's record without Shaq. I'm pretty sure its higher than the Suns record without Nash.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

Absolutely awesome. One of the best moments in sports as far as I'm concerned. This might just top joe carter's homer over the Phillies in the list of most proud sports moments. Only MJ's shot over Russell might top it for me.

Now that's it looking more official, congrats to Steve and his accomplishments this season!

Re: Signs point to Nash being named MVP

I think these arguments really are in how you define MVP. I see the MVP as the most valuable player on the best team in the NBA. Others might see it as the best player in the NBA. Or even a combination of the two, the best player on one of the best teams in the L. So, that could be Shaq, LeBron, AI, anybody.

Shaq is an MVP candidate every year. But he didn't even put up great numbers this year. In fact, he put up his second lowest ppg in his career and lowest rpg in his career. One could argue that Dwayne Wade was more valuable to the Heat (he lead the team in ppg, apg, and spg).

To me, Nash is very deserving of this award. He made the Suns go this year and lead the L in apg. They have the best record in the NBA, and could have had a better record if he didn't get hurt early in the season.

Also, someone brought up the comparison to the year that Kidd was brought over to the Nets. I think that Kidd deserved the award that year as well. And I believe it was Duncan that won that year over him. AI had won the year before and Shaq had won the year before that and was one vote away from the first unanimous MVP selection ever. The next year that Duncan won the award, I thought that KG should have gotten it. Oh well, KG won last year tho.

I'm still kind of in shock that the skinny 155 pounder I saw play for St. Michaels in 1992 is now the NBA MVP.

Couldn't happen to a nicer person.

I know he works out at UBC in the summertime. I wonder if he's going to play with the Regular Joe's at War Memorial. I wouldn't mind playing against him one on one.

I am canadian as well, but c'mon man. winning a regular season mvp award doesnt amount to the same level of accomplishment as when the bluejays won the world series. If nash puts basketball on the map and makes it popular in canada that would be something else.

But we both know besides the diehards, nba basketball is a fringe sport in popularity in Canada.

Curling and lacrosse are more appreciated than the Nba. what a shame that is in itself.

A canadian being the league mvp in any sport other than hockey is huge, but i dont think its as big as your making it out to be.

nothing compares to that...I get goosebumps whenever I see a highlight of joe hitting a homerun with the call:"waaaaaaaaaaaay back and goneeeeeeee!!!"

                      That's unforgettable.

No basketball's getting more and more popular in Canada because of all those asians who imigrated here.

Because of asians? come on man....

You see ppl of al different races at Raptor games. They have the youngest fan base of all the pro teams in Toronto as well so the future is bright. More and more canadians are getting into the game and the talent level is rising. I saw a report a while ago about this HS'er who went to Georgia and his coach said he has Lebron-like skills!

As for Nash being MVP i'm all for this. He was the glue that kept that team together and it's nice to see that an all around player can get appreciation once in a while.

Never did I say it was huge to anybody but me. I'm a big basketball fan, much more so than any other sport out there. This will be the one and only time a canadian will take this award, however the Jays managed to win it all twice, and could theoretically take the World Series again (see Angels, Florida, etc..). Take a good look at the all-time MVP list, and as already mentioned, you will find nothing but hall-of-famers or players that were on a great track to hit the hall. Nash won't get there, and I seriously doubt any other Canadian will either.

The fact that Nash's name will be in the books right alongside Wilt, Jordan, Bird, Shaq, and Magic is a truly special feat. This is a one-time deal, unlikely to ever happen again to anybody hailing from our cold country. This is a proud, proud achievement by Nash for canadian basketball fans, and the biggest canadian sports achievement as far as I'm concerned. This is my opinion, and I can't imagine anybody convincing me otherwise.

Re: Signs point to Nash being named MVP

Congrats to Steve Nash....he truly deserves it. Either man couldve won, but Nash made us go. He was our glue, and he was our driving force. He wasnt the only factor though, dont get me wrong. To whoever said that the Suns were basically the same team as the year before, COMPLETELY wrong.

Q-Rich is not exactly what I call a scrub, plus we didnt have a consistent Joe Johnson. Joe Johnson got consistent b/c of Nash, and because of learning experience. Playerwise, we mightve been relatively the same, but with the addition of Nash and Q, the whole makeup and style of the team changed. Change of gameplan, change of speed, change of everything.

We are a different team than years past, and we went 62-20 from 29-53 last year.

Case closed. Congratulations to Steve Nash and to the rest of the Suns organization and all our fans. We have the MVP, now let's bring home the hardware, baby!
