I wasn't a fan of Jeffries either. He was part of the whole problem with those Knicks: overpaid role players.

But, at a bargain, he's an underpaid good defender.

I made a post in the team thread a couple of years back that I went like three months of watching bits and pieces of our games (obviously no one was sitting through all of those games with the terrible teams) without witnessing Jeffries convert a field goal attempt. It was an amazing personal streak, I think he missed 40-50 straight shots that I saw.

Yes. About as bad as Charles Smith not being able to make a freakin' layup 3 times right in front of the rim.

Again - SCREW Jared Jeffries. The only person I wouldn't mind seeing back from the Thomas era is Crawford.

At the price they would have to pay for Jeffries, I'd take him.

Leon Powe is 6'8? How many 6'8 guys do the Knicks need?

I'd even call Jeffries a better defender than Powe. Not a better rebounder, but he can block shots, play perimeter defense and draw charges.

Get JJ on the cheap and I'm good.

Man Amare is mad shook right now. Melo's presence has definitely gotten to his head thus far, he's just outta it.

Billups looks good! I was mistaken Billups > Felton as much as I love Raymond he's not as good. Hopefully Billups can get accustomed to running pick&roll with Amare' to get STAT off.

You guys don't remember at the end there Jared Jeffries was actually hitting shots, hell , dude even started draining 3's!!!! I WAS one of them guys watching almost every game during "the era" and that last month or so JJ actually started to find some offense. How soon we forget. But I wouldn't pay big money for JJ, don't get me wrong, but picking him up at the 99 cent store would not be a bad move.

They just don't try.

They do try on defense, but they are taught so poorly they can't make up for poor timing. Whoever on that staff is teaching about defensive rotation needs to be fired immediately. There were times last night I saw guys double teaming a player without the ball. It wasn't on purpose. It was because neither realized it wasn't their man. Where's the communication?

Rebounding is horrific. Goodness, guys just stand around. They rebound like a video game. Just let the ball bounce to them. No boxing out.

And again, final five minutes and suddenly the Knicks realize they need to play hard. Where was STAT with all those rebounds, hustle in the first 43 minutes of the game? Suddenly, now that there's a sense of urgency, he is grabbing rebounds like Grandma Ma?

It's just pathetic. You can't change a roster around and still have the same issues. It can only fall on one person's shoulders. And this excuse about lack of practice? You don't need practice to know who you're guarding. It's called talking to each other.

I know people will say the Knicks are undersized, but that's not the problem. They aren't getting out rebounded because the other team is bigger. They are getting out rebounded because the other team cares about the ball more. We can have the best player on the court, but if no one wants the ball, it doesn't matter.

If Jeffries gave effort out there like Fields I wouldn't have a problem. He had his shot while making a ton of money and he had no heart. Now we expect him to come back and be the key addition? Please. He's lost on a basketball court.

I couldn't have put it any better. Last night's game shouldn't have been close. Their help defense is atrocious. It's like the team is night and day when you compare how they play on both sides of the ball.

The Knicks don't need any more Iso players. The ball stops. We already have 2 black holes on offense (STAT & Melo) and don't need another.

And...IMO...they don't need any more offensive-minded players.

They need defensive specialists and rebounders. I wouldn't mind if they picked up a guy like Reggie Evans who just boards and that's all he does.

I look forward to JJ...simply because he understands that he doesn't need to score. And I'm glad for it. If he grabs offensive boards and throws the ball back out...that's what we need. Not someone who has to "get his".

The Knicks were getting killed in the paint last night...on both ends...and Shelden Williams just sits there like a statue.

Why?

Because he provides nothing on the offensive end and that's exactly what D'Amnphony does not want. I was shocked to see Balkman get a call.

D'Amnphony doesn't understand role players. He understands scoring.

Turiaf got more minutes this season when he started to score. When he failed to do so, D'Amnphony went to Moz. It was clear.

Why was Douglas riding the pine for so long during the season and Felton getting 38 MPG? Because Douglas was struggling scoring. Nevermind that he was the Knicks best perimeter defender at the time (except AR). Couldn't get into the game.

To YankeePride...look at how many defensive 3-second violations there were against the Cavs. That's uncalled for.

Look at Stat's "show" on the Cavs P&R that gave Boobie the big 3 at the end. He didn't even fight or put a hand up. He turned his back.

It's like the Knicks philosophy is to stay close...even against the worst teams in the league...and hope that we can outscore them in the last 2 minutes. There was no sense of urgency to shut them down and that is just ridiculous.

They'll all blame lack of practice. But that has nothing to do with what transpired last night.

Yep.

Their help defense is atrocious. The Knicks play what looks like a man-zone. I don't know how else to describe it. If you watch the 3 and 2, they shadow their man, but pay more attention to the ball handler. Once the ball handler passes the ball to the wing, all hell breaks loose as Knicks are running all over the place. The 4/5 is running to cover the wing player while the 3/2 is also running because no one is guarding him. Once that player drives, the middle is open, the top of the key is open where the point is standing. On the other wing, another shooter. And every team does it against the Knicks. The Cavs did a great job of it. I expect nothing less from Byron Scott when watching tapes.

3 Second Violations were plentiful and that's because of the same issue. No one is necessarily guarding their man. So, they think someone is not being guarded and they move to cover him, but don't notice that another teammate is already guarding the guy. There goes the defensive 3 second violation. The only reason they didn't get called for Illegal Defense more often is because Jamison kept chucking quick outside shots for no real reason.

And that final play, the blown Pick-and-Roll cover, just wow. Amar'e just stood there. No hand up, no attempt. I can't blame Douglas (I think it was Douglas) because he took a hard pick. He can't do anything about that. But he needed help on the recovery.

Finally, the lack of urgency. It needs to stop, but it won't. You can't play 50 games and suddenly decide you need to play hard all 48 minutes. It's lost on this team. They were the better team. They were running away on Cleveland and then they stopped. I was fooled into thinking that maybe they wanted to destroy them, but I was wrong. And it happened so quickly that the Cavs turned it around. All in the 2nd Quarter. The Knicks aren't hungry to just destroy teams. Last night, the Knicks should have won by at least 20 points. Should have. They didn't because they thought being better was simply enough. And they'll go blame it on lack of practice. Pathetic.
