Losing against top teams I can deal with. Losing against the likes of Cleveland, Indiana, Detroit and Milwaukee is inexcusable. Why is it everyone has their career night against the Knicks? Even Chris friggin' Wilcox was abusing them.

That's the sacrifice that was made once Melo was brought in.

I mean the Defense wasn't any better before he got there(although I agree with YP in that effort WAS at least there)but when he was brought in, then it should've been known that Defense would be damn near non-existent from here on out UNLESS they show and play with more effort.

This is how i feel. They can't even beat the worst teams in the NBA. Why you would look forward to seeing them get abused on a bigger stage is beyond me. I'd rather they don't make the playoffs then to see them play the way they played against Cleveland 2x, indiana 2x, Milwaukee, Detroit.

I don't see how you can think this team can do damage in the playoffs the way they've been playing.

I'm thinking they were better before the trade.

Defensively, they are horrible since the trade. But they were horrible before the trade too.

Also, their offense is more consistent now after the trade.

The offense has turned for whatever reason. No more getting the ball to Stat late in the game. Billups is simply dribbling around with TD out on the perimeter.

Williams has disappeared. Melo was obviously hurt yesterday late.

Defense can be scrutinized but the lack of ball movement and penetration is what I see on offense. Felton did this well, always pressuring the D. Billups is content with shooting the deep 3. You can't have two guards that want to stay out on the perimeter and have your two stars the same way. No one wants to cut and move and set screens off the ball.

Break out all the stupid little nicknames for D'Antoni - he deserves them right now. There is no reason why the offense should look so out of sync late in the 4th.

Clyde was going ballistic, criticizing the Knicks' poor floor spacing and wondering why they weren't attacking the basket. Why are they so friggin' inconsistent? And then you have D'Amdummy saying the Knick defense was 'improved' after the game.

I wonder what D'Antoni told his troops. "It's ok guys. It's only been 16 games. No way we should have any idea how to run the same plays we've been running in practice or the last 16 games. It'll take time to put a basketball in the hoop and stop another team from doing the same."

Karl doesnt have a concrete play set. He lets them "play".

D'Aphony is a select scheme of run and gun. With the pick n roll being featured.

To me, this falls heavily on Melo. We can't have a guy backing his way to the basket from halfcourt, sulking all the time, and stopping the ball movement. We can't have Marbury 2.0.

I wish they had those guys back. They were fun to watch and played as a team. No prima donnas with reality shows.

It's not even run and gun anymore. Not near the seven seconds or mess that Phoenix ran. It hasn't really been that way this year and especially since Melo got here, it's a whole lot less.

I honestly haven't watched a whole lot of Denver post-trade to critique their team defense but I think part of the reason Karl's been successful is the personnel change, same with our woes. When D'antoni has success in Phoenix, he didn't rely on one or two guys to get all the offense. Yes, that offense was run by Steve Nash but he created the offense for the other 4 players. You never really knew who would lead the team in scoring on any given night. The Nuggets seem more of that way now getting contributions from everyone everywhere. Plus Denver isn't as reliant on Gallo/Chandler for offense as we were.

Also, Denver has better defensive pieces and got better defensive players in the trade. Karl at least preaches defense, Denver was a really good defensive team a couple years ago when they went to the WCF. I guarantee you'll never hear D'Antoni talk about how any of his former star players were uncommitted on defense. Karl's remarks on Melo pretty much keyed me in on a big difference between he and D'Antoni.

The Nuggets have some nasty, scrappy defenders in Nene, KMart, Birdman, Lawson, Afflalo. And we all in this thread know Gallo, Felton, and Wilson are capable defenders. We don't have guys like that anymore. Amar'e's about the only person who carries a similar non-ish taking attitude to that of Nene or KMart but he still gets dogged on defense.

Defense in NY will be all talk until D'Antoni walks.
