Re: The 2011 New York Knicks: The Rebirth

The media's reaction to this is starting to sicken me, acting like the sky is falling. Unless Isiah comes back I don't have that big of a problem with this.

First of all, Donnie had at best two years left as our GM because of his age. He wasn't going to be around much longer either way so all the talk of our franchise having "stability" and such long term is irrelevant.

If Warkentien gets the job I'll be a happy fan, and if Pringles gets shown the door.

I wonder now if part of this is because Dolan really likes D'Antoni and Walsh wanted to find a new coach.

I read somewhere that D'Antoni is supposed to be meeting with Dolan to possibly discuss his future. And with rumors circling that Walsh wasn't sure D'Antoni was the man for this particular unit, it forces me to ask questions.

Not saying this is the major factor in Walsh leaving. I think it was just a lot of little things.

Even someone as basketball-dumb as Dolan couldn't possibly think D'Antoni did a good job last year.

You're giving the brain-dead owner too much credit. I think he feels D'Amdummy did a great job. After all, the Knicks made the playoffs. That's all he cares about - get in, maybe win a game or two, then jack up ticket prices for next season. Doesn't matter if the Knicks aren't championship-caliber - they make money no matter what.

When was the last time the Rangers did anything noteworthy, yet Glen Sather still has his job. Remember, Dolan gave Isiah an extension when the Knicks were in the 8th playoff spot for a hot minute.

My friends and family outside New York just laugh at what's going on with this franchise.

Knicks now have a new D-League affiliate:

Allan Houston may not be ready to be a viable candidate to replace Donnie Walsh just yet, but the former Knick, who served the last season under Walsh as assistant GM, is clearly in mind for the future.

The Knicks today announced that Houston will serve as general manager of the D-League's Erie BayHawks, with whom the Knicks have formed an exclusive affiliation. The Knicks will run the basketball operations of the BayHawks. The Knicks will be one of three teams to have what is called a "hybrid affiliation" with a D-League team, along with the Nets (Springfield Armor) and Houston Rockets (Rio Grande Valley Vipers).

The BayHawks used to be shared by the Cavaliers and Raptors.

So a place to send the players D'Antoni won't play. Nice.

Donnie Walsh brought some class to this organization. He wasn't perfect, but with him, real Knicks fans finally felt the ship was headed in the right direction. And he was able to keep Dolan somewhat in check. Now it's all over. Dolan will run the franchise through one of his ***-kissers(Allan Houston or Glen Grunwald) and it'll be the same ol' ****. I doubt he hires someone from outside the organization.

I haven't heard the local media (or anyone for that matter) talk about the situation of rolling back salaries in the new CBA and how it would effect us.

Everyone is so quick to say we're screwed even next summer because of Melo and Amare's deals. Is it a possibility that those get reduced as well thus giving us more cap sapce?

Great question. When will we start getting some answers? Mid July?

Not sure, I don't think anything of value will come until the lockout is actually over and all of the details of the new CBA are released.

Comparing the Knicks to this years champs I am feeling better about our chances this year.
If Carmelo Anthony works he can be our shorter version of Dirk. Gets his own shot, can drive, get fouls, solid jump shooter.
I'll take Amare over Marion. But will/can Amare play some D. Heard him in an interview yesterday morning on ESPN radio and he was talking mostly defense as teh team focus.
Billups, healthy is not much worse than Kidd.
Fields (1st half of season) > Stevenson.
So starting all we need is a decent Center.
Then a bench. Douglas has potential to be a good 6th man.
