Re: The 2011 New York Knicks: The Rebirth

I think the problem with running a play to get Melo open, is that if the Celtics deny Melo the ball, then what. If you have Chauncey in the game making the decision, with Amare as another option, that's one thing. But if Douglas has the ball and they take away Melo, I don't exactly trust Douglas to make something happen for someone else. He wanted to put the game in Melo's hands and let him make the call. I can't fault him for that.

I agree with most of the other stuff about better assistants, holding guys accountable, etc. But just talking about the last play, I didn't have a problem with it.

        I blame D'Antoni.

If you guys say so. In my experience, the team with the best players win most of the time.

They do, but I'm mostly talking about execution and getting the most out of the talent around you. No doubt that talent will most likely beat out coaching. Won't disagree there especially in the NBA.

I just feel that if you switched the roles, while the Celtics will still be the better team, the Knicks would be better than they are now and the Celtics worse.

            But that's how I feel.

              In the regular season.

But when it comes to playoffs and knockout games, I disagree.

Re: The 2011 New York Knicks: The Rebirth

Well, D'Antoni is saying all the right things.

"I thought that was the best 0-for-11 performance I've ever seen. I thought he played great, his defense on Paul [Pierce] was great, his toughness, his rebounding, his ability to hit shots -- he didn't hit any, but his spacing, I just thought he was one of our better players out there,' D'Antoni said.

I know I've been critical of him this series (and most of the second half of this season) but that comment is something I didn't imagine him saying.

I also do like this part:

Despite the uncertainly surrounding two of the team's three best players, there was still some levity at practice as Carmelo Anthony repeatedly passed the ball to Jared Jeffries in the low post and then yelled "Dunk it!"

Gotta give Melo credit there. I've mentioned it before in several other threads NBA-related. I can never for the life of me understand how a man 6'8 or taller doesn't just dunk the ball when under the basket. The soft stuff is only going to get blocked. You gotta go in strong. Jeffries has to put the ball into the hole and forget there's a backboard.

The article also explains why Turiaf wasn't on the floor: he complained of an ailing knee. And doesn't provide anything positive about Billups and Stoudemire who both didn't practice today.

"We know it's going to be a challenge, we know that. We know they're really good," D'Antoni said. "But our confidence is that they didn't play well because we didn't let them play well, and that's going to be out mindset going in. Now they have to prove us different, and they are world champions, they could prove us differently, but we think we can do a good job on them."

                  I don't know man.

Yeah he's saying all the right things..but he has to.

He knows the market he's in.

Most importantly from all that was the fact that Amare didn't even make it to the practice facility.

                  I have issues with that.

He's the team leader and should be there even if he's not practicing. They have enough money to book him a hotel room near the practice facility so he doesn't have to commute.

                  D'Antoni strikes me as star-struck.

STAT is still getting treatment on his back. He'll probably be getting treatment all the way til we come out of tunnel for warm ups tomorrow

Those ticket prices were way too rich for my blood. $120/ticket for the nosebleeds wasn't worth it for me.

Yea, that's very fair, probably a bad decision for me to buy them, but I couldn't help myself.

Glad I did it a week ago though, they are so much worse now.

                            Enjoy.

Yeah...I just couldn't pull the trigger. It was my goal to be present at a Knicks playoff game but had to make a tough decision and bypass it.

                            The atmosphere should be electric.

Agree 100%. Even when the Knicks get the right pieces, will they take that next step with these jokers in charge? No way.
