I'm just not sure Lin is worth the price of this backloaded deal.

With Chandler, Anthony, Stoudemire and Lin, they'd be committed to nearly $90 MM in Lin's third year.

Their penalty would be ridiculous even for a rich man. They won't have exceptions and we are expecting them to win on just veteran minimums to fill the rest of the roster/bench?

Just not seeing it. You build to win a title. The Knicks have a four year window with these guys. That team isn't a championship team with a bunch of nobodies on the bench.

Then again neither is the team with Felton starting. So I don't know.

Maybe you take the penalty hit to give people hope. I'm not gonna be fooled.

Isn't Felton pretty much done? The few times I saw him last year he looked awful. Granted it was the blazers and everyone looked awful, but still.

I don't see the Knicks having much of a choice with Lin. They can't just let him walk now that there is no real good backup plan. I'm not sold on him being worth all that money either but I'd rather not count on Felton or someone of that caliber being the starting PG.

Bringing in Kidd would be the ideal move now but he will probably go back to Dallas now that they whiffed on Deron Williams.

I don't know what Felton has left in the tank but he came into last season with Portland out of shape. That and the fact that they had nothing to play for I'm sure affected his effort level.

I think/hope he'll be motivated to play here again. He was a crowd favorite, an All-Star candidate (inflated numbers due to D'Antoni offense) and he played tough defense.

We can't win them all.

And I commend the Knicks for holding their guns on some of these players.

We've done the big splash signings for years and when it comes to the Knicks...they never work out.

I don't see how putting a Steve Nash on this team and giving up Shumpert would have put us any closer to beating Boston, Chicago or Miami.

The Knicks have to chip away these next 3 years and hope to stay healthy and aim to play Top 5 defense in the league.

To me...that's the only way they have a shot.

The deal is for three years, with a player option for a fourth year. Houston's offer would pay Lin $5 million in the first season and $5.2 million in the second season before the back-loaded money takes effect over the final two years of the deal. Dubbed a so-called "poison pill" offer, the salary jumps to around $10.5 million in the final two years that could create a luxury tax problem for the Knicks in the 2014-2015 season, the third year of the deal.

Match Houston.

The deal is more than friendly for the Knicks in the first two years.

Year 3 is the year we've been talking about.

Out of Amare, Chandler, Lin & Melo...whoever is most expendable by the 3rd year...ship them out and clear house.

If you let him go, you still have no cap room next year. We will be signing "hold the fort" guys every season. It's more money than I'd like to pay him, but I'd absolutely keep him.

I wanted Nash because it was a rare opportunity to sign a hall of fame pg. But Lin can play. Is he going to put up the numbers he did his first few weeks onto the scene? No. But he's also only 23, and has played less than half an NBA season. He's not a finished product, he's going to get better.

Bring back Lin, and get a solid backup, and I'm not worried at all about our pg situation. Much more worried about SG, and depth in the frontcourt.

Could not agree more. Lin is our only hope. If we let him walk then we have no cap space to sign anyone and we'll have dreadful PG's for the next three years. We must settle for an overpriced, average starting point guard.

Hahn is reporting through the prism of a team fan. The ones that say things like: "Knicks should just trade Stoudemire for Howard. It would make the team better!"

Completely ignoring that the other team doesn't care for that deal.

Sounds like we're the lead to get Camby. The Heat getting Ray eliminated them from the situation. I guess we're going to try to split the $3.1 MLE between Camby & Prigioni. That'd give us...
