I'm still not convinced that was the Knicks playing in that game. Los Pantolones de Nueva York ≠ New York Knicks.

Co-sign. Let's see these cats go on a winning streak and get above .500. No more excuses.

I got the news Pringles was gone just as I got to work today...to say I was overjoyed was an understatement (I never wanted him in the 1st place). Then to get home and see us beating the Blazers like they stole something....priceless.

With the way Portland played last night, we would have won either way.

They were absolutely dreadful. Too early to tell.

I do like Mike Woodson's postgame interview session where he made a point of holding players accountable. Sounds like D'Antoni, being the lame duck coach without his biggest supporter - Donnie Walsh - around, didn't have the muscle to do it his way.

Melo looked real good last night too. It's just one game against a team that didn't even seem to want to compete so I'll take it all in stride. Indiana will be a real test.

For all of the talk about Phil Jackson, Stephen A. Smith (whether he's "reliable" or not) reported last April, before Phil retired, that Phil's plan was to retire, take a year off, and coach the Knicks. Obviously, it's just a report, but interesting nonetheless how things are playing out.

                  I really...really dislike this guy..

And this one from Melo: "I had to sacrifice for the system, for Mike D’Antoni’s system. I had no problem with that. Tonight was a different system. Everybody felt comfortable tonight. You all saw it out there. Everybody was smiling and having fun.” ... "I felt something coming into tonight’s game as far as how my body feels, my mind, I felt clear in my mind. I just wanted to win this game so bad. It was a big win and a big game for me.”

                  Sacrifice????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

He means...not shoot it every freaking time I want to???

Oh I don't like this guy!

Ironically...Amare said the reason D'Antoni got fired is because "not everybody on the team bought in."

I'm starting to really hate this team as long as he's on it.

Melo is like a better version of Stephon Marbury.

If you watched the games he was trying to buy into the system by passing the ball more , the only reason he was taking bad shots because his team wasn't scoring and Melo is the only legit scorer on that team. Melo's style of play just isn't fit for the D'Antoni system which is why hes having the worst shooting percentages of his career.

D'Antoni's system is not the reason he's shooting a career low. That's a cop out.

Why is it that every single player who plays for D'Antoni puts up career stats.

I am by no means defending D'Antoni. So glad he's gone.

The point is Carmelo Anthony wants things his way. He wants to shoot whenever he feels like it. He has played his whole career that way and has never won. Why? Because it doesn't work.

Look at what he said..he "sacrificed".

Sacrificed his numbers! That's all he cares about. He doesn't care about winning. He cares about his numbers.

How can you say Melo is the only legit scorer when everybody else has a chance to score if the ball moves.

An undrafted PG put up 38 points! That's unheard of.

Raymond Felton looked like an All-Star PG last year and looks like crap now.

                      Numbers don't lie man.

Knicks will never have success when your best player wants to run his own ship.

Re: The 2012 New York Knicks: The Filler Year?

Pringles' system benefits fringe/below-average/average players and their numbers always get a bump, it doesn't work that way for stars. Very few stars or big time scorers will benefit from his system. It's pretty basic in basketball, it's a lot easier to score in transition and before the D is set than in a half-court set. All those guys that can barely score in the half court game get tons of open looks in an uptempo system. Who cares what Lin and Felton did in the system, it's meaningless in the playoffs when any opponent worth their salt will eliminate your transition game. Playoff series are won and lost in the half-court.

Melo was trying to fit into Mike's system and it was throwing him way off his game. He was trying to pass the ball and fit in to prove that he wasn't selfish and it was a disaster for him. He wasn't as aggressive or confident. He was never in a rhythm. More or less, Melo was thinking way too much instead of just playing. Now he'll go back to just playing, hence his "clear mind" comment. I wouldn't be surprised if we see vintage Melo the rest of this season.

And really, should we fault Melo for thinking/feeling what 99% of our fanbase has been saying for at least a year....

Melo shouldn't say anything about sacrifice. I agree there.

But everything else he is right on. He didn't work in D'Antoni's system.

I know there are people that think Melo should have adjusted, but I guess I feel differently. I think the coach should adjust his offensive plan to fit the strengths of his team rather than forcing guys to play his way.

I much prefer Anthony just shut up and score points / win games and prove that the system didn't work for him and the rest of the team.

Not surprisingly it's Chandler, Lin and Baron Davis the most unhappy about D'Antoni's leaving. What do they have in common? This is their first year under him. They wanted to buy into his system because they are good guys trying to appease coach. Anthony and whoever the other guys are (and there are more than him. Trust that) already knew it wasn't going to work.

I don't care what Lin has to say. He's a D-Leaguer who had a breakout moment. He should know his place and just go with the flow. Chandler has more say in my mind but he made a good statement: "If D'Antoni felt that stepping down is the right move, then I respect that."

Time to move on. I think Woodson will do good in his time here and I wouldn't be surprised if he's extended for 2-3 years after this season.

Great post bro. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Melo is a good passer and willing to share the rock. He was frustrated because D'antoni refused to take advantage of matchups and being stubborn and non adaptive to everything. D'antoni was frustrating the **** out of me as a fan, I can only imagine how it would feel to play for him.

So far I love everything Woodson has done and said. He is going to hold players accountable. He wants to take advantage of matchups and try Melo on the low blocks.
He's out there hi fiving guys when they come out of the game. His rotations were on point yesterday and he actually wants to teach defense!!!

Maybe it's my fatigue and headache setting in...but what??

                              Fringe and below average players?

                              Steve Nash.

And no thanks. I don't want to see Melo "just playing". I've seen him "just playing" since he came in this league.

Woodson didn't implement anything in the Portland game besides a different rotation/minutes.

What we saw from Melo was just a guy who had a green light and that's the only way he can function.

Problem is...we will not win. It's proven.

Not sure how any long time Knick fan can be happy with this.

Again...I am not defending D'Antoni. Just the simple fact that Melo cannot perform in any system other than his own.
