Yea, I was fine with Fisher when we hired him because I thought Phil was going to be more hands on in the coaching and mentoring part of it. But if that's not the case than go get a proven coach and let him do his job.

Phil basically saying: It doesn't have to be the Triangle, but it better incorporate the principles of the Triangle.

That's positive to me. Not sure who of the candidates out there really fits that.

He also basically said that Thibs isn't a candidate. He showed a little attitude when asked about him

              Classic Knicks tonight.

Phil said the same thing before he hired Fisher, that he didn't need to run the triangle, that he was just looking for a system of team basketball.

To be fair, basic pick and roll is essentially a two man game and I can see why he doesn't like it.

I think the focus needs to be more on defense right now. Watching Calderon get punished over and over from either wall or Beal was brutal. We need stops. We need transition defense. We need to stop switching everything

Walton probably. Warriors run some iterations of the triangle sometimes, Sam Pham did a good job breaking down a couple of their sets. Obviously, they have superior perimeter talent which forces defenses to pay if they cheat or affords them no opportunity to cheat making their screening so effective, but it's a nice modern take on it. Most offenses run certain triangle sets anyway but I don't see Phil hiring anyone that he doesn't feel lives or at one point lived the triangle, even if they dabble in other sets.

Sidenote, I have another thought about Kristaps. I think his struggles (though he's been playing better lately) have been exacerbated by our offense. Because we play him at the 4 and Rolo at the 5, Rolo ends up with the majority of his touches 15 feet and in and KP ends up catching the ball 20 feet and out. Rambis/Phil were talking about KP taking shots that weren't good, even though they were open, but the shots he's been getting are products of our offense and personnel.

I'd like to see more KP at the 5 in stretches so he gets more touches around the paint or in the high post. He obviously has a pretty good post game when he has the time and space.

^ That was also one of the worst parts about Fisher - he rarely tried to take advantage of KP's mismatches when opposing teams put a SF on him. KP's lack of strength hasn't been a huge issue when he catches the ball within 15', he'll just catch and shoot over the top with a little fadeaway, he doesn't need to back his defender down. Last night Rambis tried to capitalize on that more than Fisher typically did at least. Under Fish, KP would just float on the perimeter with a SF on him, essentially allowing the opposition to win the mismatch without much effort. Then, at the other end, KP would understandably struggle at times guarding a smaller, quicker player.

Of course the issue is that Lopez isn't going to space the floor that much, though he's shown that he's capable of hitting 15-18 footers this year. This ties into the fact that in addition to Rolo getting most of the post touches he's also the primary PnR big since Taps can space the floor. Taps being the roll man when Lopez on the floor will always have some issues but IMO we should still run it much more often. I see no reason for it not to be a 50/50 split between Rolo & Taps being the roll man when both are on the court.

The bottom line is that we aren't fully taking advantage of the match up nightmare that KP already is. Despite the modernization of the league over the last decade a big chunk of NBA offense is still all about exploiting mismatches.

I know Rambis said in his first press conference he wants to get KP more shots closer to the basket.

Was hoping the love affair with Sasha would be over now but I guess not.

Phil talks about the Triangle but fails to mention that he had the best player of all time, a Top 3 SG of all time, a Top 3 Center of all time and arguably the best rebounder ever.

                          This isn't plug and play.

Yes it's great to have ball movement and get everyone involved.

But he needs to stop with the nonsense. MJ wasn't being stopped whether they ran a triangle, circle, hexagon or square.

Since when does the team president demand what kind of offense or defense the team should run? Philosophy? Yeah.

But if Phil wants the product on the floor to look like what he envisions, then grab a wheelchair and a clipboard and coach the team for goodness sakes.

Yeah, the concepts and philosophies he praises and looks for are all over the NBA these days. This isn't the 90s or the early 2000s anymore. Every successful system is predicated on penetration, ball movement, making the extra pass, etc.

Hell, it's not like the Triangle is the only successful motion offense in the history of basketball either.

Again...Pippen, Rodman, Jordan, MWP, Shaq, etc.

Phil has had some dogs on defense.

Defense to me is really a roster issue mainly. Who is our best defender? Lance Thomas?

I think either Phil smokes too much or he's just simply delusional. He criticized GSW last year but they actually share the ball.

Maybe he can try to replicate the Spurs but again...they have a dog in Kawhi.

We don't have that so Phil can throw all that philosophical crap in the garbage.
