Celtics went where the Knicks refuse. They got a young coach, gave him freedom and rebuilt.

It's too bad there's a narrative you can't rebuild in New York. I think it's false. Fans will support the future if there's a plan.

That's with any fanbase tbh. If you're gonna put out a crap product there needs to be some hope for the future. This only makes me feel worse for Nets fans who have to be some of the most depressed fans in all of pro sports thanks to Billy King. Just realizing they traded away Damian Lillard, Derrick Favors, Draymond Green, a top 5 pick this year, and you can see how you'd spiral into depression.

Donnie Walsh tried, but Dolan blew up his long term plan to get Anthony. Would the Knicks be in a better place had the Knicks waited?

Walsh wanted Melo though, and Melo made clear he wasn't willing to wait till the offseason. Walsh wanted to go right up until the deadline and get the best deal possible, Dolan panicked and stepped in and offered too much. At the end of the day though I think we'd be in a similar spot, we'd have made the trade, maybe hang on to Mozgov or something. Real problem with that team was Amare only lived up o his contract one year.

Ian Begley is reporting that Phil wants to keep Rambis is our HC in 2016-17.

At 26-38, the Knicks are miles away from playoff contention with some young players who need to learn from their mistakes. Time to let them loose?

Phil Jackson, according to league sources, hired Rambis as his interim with the hope of keeping him on as his next head coach.
That better not be accurate. I've defended Phil through and through but if he keeps Rambis then I'll be calling for his head.

I'm sure its accurate that at the time they made the change, Phil hoped it would turn things around, and Rambis would stay on.

With the way things have gone though I can't imagine he'd keep him, no matter how loyal he is.

This is the issue though with Rambis. He has no reason to play the young guys and lose games. I'm sure he's hoping he can figure out a solution and impress other teams.

How do we even consider a guy like Thibs if we all know the best solution is to develop? Thibs, or any other veteran coach, isn't going to ride that out.

Unfortunately if the organization can't commit to rebuilding, how can any coach? And Fisher, as poorly as he managed minutes, seemed to always be in Flux with this dilemma of rebuilding but being expected to succeed. It's not healthy.

Again, look at Boston and you see Brad Stevens allowed to go young and develop. It took them three seasons. If the Knicks just committed to rebuilding instead of re-signing Melo, they could be a year away from reaping those rewards.

I'm sure they would even have someone's first if the Knicks had pulled a sign and trade.

Instead this team is essentially in neutral.

The Knicks are expected to finalize an agreement with free-agent guard Tony Wroten later this week, according to league sources.

The deal is expected to be for two seasons at the veteran’s minimum with the 2016-17 portion of the contract not fully guaranteed, sources say. The contract terms were still being finalized as of Monday afternoon.

New York has an open roster spot so the club will not need to make a corresponding move to create space for Wroten. But it is unclear if Wroten, who is coming off of an injury, will be able to play immediately for New York once he joins the team.

I'm a fan of this signing and deal. Not sure about Wroten's health but he's a guy who can push the tempo and get to the basket. Unfortunately, his jumper is suspect and he is extremely left hand dominant. However, he's still young, almost a full year younger than Jerian Grant.

Slightly better than Jose Calderon? Has work to do there. Also not sure how much his lateral quickness may have suffered from that torn ACL.

I should also mention he's extremely turnover prone. I get the vibe he's going to get a lot of bench splinters with Rambis and we're going to have a hard time getting a good gauge on his ability this year.

Hearing the deal can't be for three years because of salary cap issues. Any word anywhere else?
