    ROSE 2016 highlights

I'm really liking that Rose does things Calderon can only dream of. Hes also a good player that doesn't have to do as much as he used to , to thrive in our offense.
Im also excited about what this could mean for KPs development.

      Yes exactly.

I've seen complaints about his shots stripping KP of development but I think it's the opposite, having a point guard that drives gives KP a look at a real point guard.

If it means he needs to adjust his game, then good. Good teams have good point guards that drive to the basket. Playing with statues that can't move beyond the three point line forces iso ball and that teaches nothing.

D-Rose and Porzingis could be an amazing pick and pop combo. Also, a lot of these people saying "Knicks fans shouldn't expect MVP D-Rose" either didn't watch the team last year and see how terrible Calderon was or don't realize that Rose isn't as garbage as people want to think he is. We saw what he could do just from a physical and explosiveness standpoint against us when he dropped 30, and he averaged almost 18 on 46% (55 around the rim) shooting after New Years. That is a sizable upgrade from Calderon. I think this could be a very good move for both us and him. I'm excited.

Watched every second of this video.

Makes me think that we should really target defensive guys like Noah and Batum. Because scoring won't be a problem on this team..if healthy.

Even in the highlights when the Bulls were down..he had no problem getting into the lane. None.

Give me Noah, Batum and another rebounder (O'Quinn) and we should be good.

The pundits are still long on the Knicks which is understandable. But this guy was going right at guys like Westbrook and Lillard, etc.

How many PGs can go off glass? And it's not like we're getting him at 30+ years old. He's 27.

If we can get anything out of guys like Early and Galloway...we can hang with anyone.

I just hope they don't mess this up and go after Dwight.

That's the problem being in NY. Whether it's for leisure, the league office, the Jordan terminal, appearances at the NBA store or whatever...players just either want to or have to be here...and not for the Knicks

These are young millionaires. They're going to be hanging together or working out together. Doesn't mean they're gonna pass up millions of dollars to sign here.

I see a lot of the same when you hear a player working out at UCLA. Oh he must be signing with the Lakers. It's a joke.

It's giving up an average center and a PG with an average ceiling for an injury-prone but talented point guard. We didn't give up draft picks and we didn't hurt our cap situation.

The point guard market blows this summer. We improved our biggest area of weakness and will be able to find a reasonable replacement for RoLo (and I was a much bigger fan of RoLo than most Knick fans but let's be real).
I'm just tired of "the plan" constantly changing. Look at the Spurs - there's ONE philosophy throughout the entire organization, from the owner on down. Not here, and it's the main reason this franchise has been spinning its wheels since 1973. I had no problem with Phil talking about a total rebuild - establish a core group of young, talented players and slowly add pieces around them. I've screamed about that for years. Then he flipped and gave Carmelo that ridiculous contract, throwing the rebuild out the window. So now we've gone back to the old plan in the hopes of making the playoffs.

I want a team that will be perennial contenders for the next ten years (a la the 90s Knicks), not this year-to-year crap.

Re: The 2016 New York Knicks: Now that we're done tanking...

Well we're no farther away from that then we were before the trade, and I'd argue we're closer because we have less contracts on the books and can make big moves next summer.

The issue is the plan hasn't changed that much, things just happen quickly and the media tries to put a spin on every little move. We haven't had an opportunity to really rebuild since Phil got here. Resigning Melo was basically his first move, the alternative was a Nets rebuild because we didn't have any picks anyway. Phil is shuffling the chairs because we haven't had a real opportunity to do anything else. If this offseason he signs Dwight to a max, then he's ****ed up but as of now, he's gotten us into a position where we can start over again next summer (with all of our picks and a ton of space) and still be a very entertaining if not decent team this year depending on how the offseason goes. As long as he maintains flexibility for next year, we should be good for the future. When's the last time you could say that about this team?

Also, to BEB, agree completely. I would love Noah, im just wondering on his price. Im not sure with his history he'd bet on himself but if Phil can hit him with the Zen confusion and get him to sign a 1+1 so he can get back on the market when the cap keeps again, I'd love it. Great defender, rebounder, passer, if he can stay healthy he's a great KP complement. Like you said, we've got firepower, if we could get a couple wings that can shoot and play defense, we could really be something this year. And those highlights...you could see it just in the game he went off against us. 50% of MVP D Rose athleticism is 200% Calderon on a good day. Our offense changes completely overnight. We can run the pick and roll lol.

Possible roster: D Rose, Courtney Lee, Melo, Porzingis, Noah with Galloway, KOQ, Lance Thomas off the bench and fill in the blanks.

It's impossible to rebuild when you trade away 1st round picks.

I'd rather be in this position with a mix of talented vets (Rose, Melo) and talented youngsters (Porzingis) than what some of these other teams are trying to do.

Just look at the Nets. They'll be putting out a JV squad next year. And the year after that and the year after that because they traded away their picks and swapped 1st rounders.

I can't sit through that. You're team sucks for the entire year and then you watch your pick become someone else's Top 3.

And then look at the team's who have accumulated picks over the years...Philly, Denver, Boston. They have young talent but FAs don't want to sit through those growing pains.

You have to pick and choose. Don't compare San Antonio because they have 2 superstars who they drafted.

I haven't looked a lot into it, but I'd rather max a 2 then a 5 right now. In 2 years Porzingis is going to be the center, then we'd be paying Whiteside max money to do what?

And scratch my earlier possible lineup lol, Courtney Lee is looking for 14 per. Strap in boys, it's gonna be a fun offseason.

Phil never really said we'd be rebuilding. He made it clear he wanted Melo back. His first year here he tried to make us better, it was a disaster, so he switched course. But even then, he's had one first rounder to work with since he's been here, even if they traded Melo rebuilding would be a really tough process. Even a team like Boston, they made a once in a lifetime trade with the Nets, hired a great coach, and have made tons of smart moves, it still remains to be seen if they can get the type of players they need to contend.

Plus, with the cap jump its a rare opportunity to be big players in free agency in consecutive years. Even with Melo's deal we had cap space last year, this year, and most likely next year. Getting the top tier guys or guy this year might be a pipe dream, but I don't think making a few smaller smart signings this year, and then getting a top guy next year is unrealistic.

With the hand Phil was dealt, the best he can do is put the organization in good shape to win a championship in the future.

There was never going to be a chance to properly rebuild or win because the ineptitude of Dolan destroyed that.

Phil's work needs to be looked at from a different perspective. He's righting the team back on a positive course. Or at least trying to.

Consider how few first round picks or awful contracts this team would have with Dolan calling the shots.

Finally, our President isn't throwing away money at washed up veterans and trading away valuable picks.

When the successor steps in, he will have picks, money and Porzingis.

Phil had neither when he stepped in.
