Re: The 2016 New York Knicks: Now that we're done tanking...

I was watching highlights of Porzingis from last season, and I have to say this was one of my favorite games. When he drains those threes at the end and the Garden erupts...man. I can only imagine the atmosphere if that were a playoff game.

And even though we lost that game, when we were coming back at the end I remember thinking holy crap, KP might just win this all by himself.

Phil's work needs to be looked at from a different perspective. He's righting the team back on a positive course. Or at least trying to.

Consider how few first round picks or awful contracts this team would have with Dolan calling the shots.

Finally, our President isn't throwing away money at washed up veterans and trading away valuable picks.

When the successor steps in, he will have picks, money and Porzingis.

Phil had neither when he stepped in.

But at some point the game plan HAS to change. I'm so sick of this year-to-year/let's try to make the playoffs so we can woo whatever FA is available. That's not how you build a championship team. There has to be more consistency.

My biggest fear is when Phil leaves, it's back to Knick business as usual. You know Dolan will hire one of his flunkies.

I just have to accept the fact that the Knicks will always be a joke.....at least I still have my football Giants. Their ownership gets it.

What do you want him to do? We haven't had our picks and no assets for the most part for years. We have a star signed for another 3 years with a NTC that doesn't want to go anywhere. How were we supposed to build a contending team if not this way?

We shouldn't care how much he costs. It's not a long-term fix when you're signing an injury prone guy at that age.

I believe we're gonna sign Noah but I'll wait for the official terms the more I think about it. This dude "had a max offer" couldn't have been a week ago lol. His agent has to just be talking ****.

Yea and there haven't been many leaks under Phil. Definitely sounds like his agent posturing.

Last year it was reported we signed Afflalo for 3 years 36 million and it ended up being the 1+1 for 8 million.

Yeah, could have been his agent or any other FO exec trying to bait a team into overpaying him.

If he is indeed getting paid $18 mil, it's honestly not horrible with the cap increase. To put it in perspective, the final year of his contract this past season paid him 13.4 mil. The cap was ~70 mil, which made his salary 19% of the cap. If he's paid 18 mil next season with the cap projected at 94 mil, that's 19% of the cap, basically the same rate. If that 18 mil is a flat rate or an average of what he'll be making, next season with the cap projected at 108 mil, he'll take up 16.6% of the cap.

As I continue to justify every Knicks move in my mind (f̶o̶r̶ ̶b̶e̶t̶t̶e̶r̶ ̶o̶r̶ for worse), I think back to the squad we had the last time we made the playoffs. Even if Noah isn't the player he was in Chicago before injury, he still brings a lot of intangibles and leadership off of the court, which has been a weakness of our team since we blew up that 50 win squad.

One other thing worth considering is that Phil could continue the method of teambuilding that he did last season where he handed out short contracts to unproven or under-performing players and gave them a chance to prove themselves. There's bound to be guys out there that are interested in a one year deal where they will have an opportunity to play themselves into a much more lucrative, longer term contract next off-season. This year's class really isn't that deep.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the salary cap as a baseball fan. I think just the figures are throwing me off. It doesn't sound good at all to me that 20% of our cap would be wrapped up in Noah. If it's a shorter deal I guess it wouldn't matter.

How do you guys feel about Bogut? I was reading Herring's twitter and I guess the Warriors are trying to unload him and a pick to clear cap space and it's possible for us to do that because we're under the cap.

My main problem with him is that he is hurt all of the time too

Definitely but if it could be done, we'd be getting an injury prone, good passing big man for 1 year, 11 mil and a pick as opposed to something longer if nothing else can be figured out. Seems like we've got Noah locked up but who knows? I just hope whoever we end up with plays well, hard, and stays healthy. I'd love it to be Noah for sure, but on a short term deal.

If it is an injury prone player than I am all for short contracts. Didn't know Bogut only had one more year left. Don't mind that all

No to Bogut. He has never been healthy. Ever.

I'd rather take a flyer on the Center we picked up for the summer league. Some 7'0 Int'l prospect. Used to play for GS.
