Good post. I don't use the buttons, but I'd imagine that it'd be harder for them to parry and counter. It's still a bit unbalanced in favor of the button users, IMO.

There is nothing UNFAIR, about choosing one config over another. I have yet to master the art of "quick and easy" hooks using the buttons. Take the 90 speed of Sugar Ray Leonard for instance. His left jab/right cross combo is pretty quick (although try throwing a four punch left jab/fight cross/left jab/right cross combo), but his hook is noticably slower by comparison. Defense, rather than Button Pressing or Stick Swinging wins you games.

All that being said, I don't understand why EA has never given the online gamer the option to enter into Stick or Button matches.

Had one guy disconnect on me after 1 round. I think he landed one punch. Threw about 30 haymakers though. He was Ali and I was Jones Jr.

Had another guy use Ali and throw nothing but Haymakers and I knocked him out with Holyfield. Other than those two guys. Ali and Corrales give me the biggest problems since they are so fast.

If we are still talking about doing a league, we probably need 2 divisions, buttons and stick-without it I see alot of arguing

This happened to me too last night. One guy threw nothing but stun punches. Boring *** fight that was. Another guy was only using signature punches. I think I've only had one fight against someone who actualy wanted to "box". It as a great fight

For the record I use Config 3 but I am not, by any means, a button masher. In fact, I tend to only throw two to three punch combos max. But, when I'm up against one of these players that just want to go out there and punch wildly, throw haymakers and go for the flash K.O.'s all the time, I admit, I just resort to slugfests where both boxers are just wailing each other. Not realistic or fun, but I just want to get the fight over with so that I can move on.

Re: For those of us using the stick, how do you stop button pushers?

I think where they (EA) screwed up was that they wanted the stick to be better by being able to adjust the strngth of your punches where button mashers could not.
It just doesnt work though. I takes too long and telegraphs too much to put max power to a stick punch. The buttons are not always the lowest strangth punch and instead are random. Ive lifted a guy off the mat with buttons just like the stick,
The system is flawed badly and only a patch could fix by making stick punches always max power and buttons always lowest like they should have to begin with. Then we would not have these discussions at all.

Maybe it is just me but I see no speed disadvantage when using the sticks. I find that I can punch pretty damned quickly with it - quicker and smoother than Round 2 actually. But that's just my opinion.

This is the funniest joint I've ever heard. So that's how that dude was beating me? This kat was doing that in RN2 all day. I couldn't figure out why he was landing them punches all day so easily. Didn't make sense. Is this just on XBOX Live or on the PS2 also?

Such derogatory terminology-maybe some of us are just "button users".

I agree with you. I prefer the buttons over the stick in part b/c to me, certain aspects of the stick are still very flawed, like habing to pull pack and around then bring the stick forward as if someone is going to just sit there while you do all that.

I like using the buttons for jabs/hooks and the stick for uppercuts, but I don't ever have time to "crank back" (as Kudo calls it) for the big haymakers and fancy punches used by the stick.

Agreed. I don't think it's the advantage you guys are making it out to be. I've found it relatively easy to outbox guys like this, just keep moving and countering, let them punch theirselves out, then finish 'em off.

I also have trouble with getting the stun and haymakers stickwork done in the short window they give. I typically only throw one every 3-4 rounds due to this. Now when i get that opportunity (parry, etc) i use the signiture punch. Does anyone know how this is better or worse than using the stun, haymaker or flash?

I don't think it's as powerful as any level of haymaker.

The parry, which some believe to be an equalizer in this game, is the problem. After a parry button users can throw several hooks and uppers which stick users usually cannot after a parry.
I like the idea which a poster stated earlier about being patient and landing one shot at a time if needed. But, being able to land a three shot combo would be nice too.
