Just had the perfect example of being patient against a skilled button user. Taylor vs Wright (me).

He came out trying to bulldog and threw punch after punch after punch. He easily threw 300 punches in the first two rounds. I just focused on planting, trading maybe a jab or two, going into a defensive shell and then backing off. Now you aren't going to escape an onslaught like this unscathed if your opponent knows what he is doing. You just need to make sure you don't panic and stick to the plan even if you are taking some damage.

When he came out for the third round his stamina was already 1/3 of the way gone. I was able to start going on the offensive in the 3rd round and over the course of the next couple of rounds I slowly broke him down. I was able to put him down for the first time in 6th and then down for the count in the 7th. It was close and tense, but had I not fought a smart fight at the beginning I would have surely taken a loss.

I use stick only, and I tend to win the second half of the fight except for the fact that I took too much damage early, so I get knocked down a few times and I lose the fight. I need to be more patient early on when the button users are trying to kill me.

They made Winky entirely too slow in this game and his jab is useless (too slow) when in reality it's his best punch.

Ya I like Winky but he gets owned when I use him. He seems smaller than the other guys and has less reach or something, plus weak jabs/crosses.

Hmm, I am pretty much only using Winky at middleweight right now. Guess it is just a matter of how comfortable you are with his style.

do you find him to be slow in terms of the speed of his punches? His jab seems slow to me as do other fighters in the game with that same style. But the funny thing is that guys like RJ have a lightning quick jab and in reality he barely throws a jab in his fights.

All you gotta do is get better with the stick. I kno people that cant be beat even if you use buttons and wail away.

Me personally I use config 5 because it allows me to parry and block faster. If a button masher wants to just mash on me I'll parry then counter him til he gets the point.

IMO, buttons are far more realistic than the analog sticks. If anyone here has ever boxed you would know that a boxer can throw a hook, straight, jab or uppercut with the same fluidity.
It doesn't take a 3-point movement for a human being to throw an uppercut.

The whole analog scheme in this game needs an overhaul. I like using the sticks for defense and such but having to push down and then arc to the side in order to throw an uppercut is rediculous. You should simply have to press the stick to, say, 7:00 for a left uppercut or 5:00 for a right uppercut. That's it. Just like a left hook should be 9:00 and a right hook should be 3:00.
You're attributes would then dictate how quick the punch was thrown.

Then you would have realistic controls.

Another thing that would slow down 'button mashers' is a realistic stamina engine.

But I could go on for days with what this series needs. It's not even real boxing anymore. Tekken 3 acts more realistically than Fight Night Round 3. At least in Tekken there isn't a rediculously unrealistic feature such as the Flash KO punch.
