Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
You think he is bad, take a look at the 2kforums.......holy crud, there are a few guys since yesterday morning hell bent on beating this game to death about how bad it is in their opinion.
If anyone can help me with how to play better against the CPU aggressiveness, I would appreciate it. I like this game, but I am getting frustrated to the point where I am ready to give up. I can go about 4 rounds the most before I get knocked out. I do block a lot, but the damn CPU is like the Terminator and doesn't let up even on Amateur which is sad.
Should I spend the first round or two jabbing and blocking?
I loved the Rocky series and those games were tough because the CPU wasn't a slouch, but I was able to hang with the CPU.Comment

I love this game compared to Fight Night. I wasn't so sure when I first read about the career mode, but now I think it's awesome. Love how it's a documentary telling your career story. Very cool.Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
Have you started the career mode? It makes you feel better because the first few guys suck, plus I did it on the easiest mode just to see how good I can do there, if it gets too easy, I'll start over, but I'm laying guys out right now early in my career. Knocked one guy out in the 3rd, did a flash KO and nailed the next guy in the first.

I think that this game is better than FN to a degree because it slows down the game, but I think it slows it down a bit too much for its own good. The CPU is too aggressive, hopefully they release a patch that helps but I really doubt it. Maybe they will fix the CPU aggressiveness with the PS3 version which is due later in the year.Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
I didn't start the career yet because exhibition frightened me since I was getting beaten so badly. LOL! I figured play on exhibition a bit to get a hang of the game and then go to career......but I may fire up career tonight and see how it goes. That is a sigh of relief to hear that career doesn't start out so tough.

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
I should be getting my copy sometime today or tomorrow.
But from sifting through the impressions here and at 2K (which Candyman is right - they're being brutal on this game!), I get the sense that this game is similar to NHL2K2.
I'm a huge hockey nut but when I first picked that game up I hated it. Why? Because it played nothing like the EA games I had been playing for years.
But once I got used to the controls (which were far more indepth than EA's) and the style of gameplay, I realized that it was a far superior interpretation of NHL hockey than anything I had played to date. It just took some time and patience to discover how to play it.
I'm hoping to have the same experience with PF.
And having read the good and bad I'm already prepared for:
- slow foot movement
- a jab that isn't as effective as it should be
- overly aggressive CPU
But the good is sounding like it outweighs the bad.Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
Keep trying and block or avoid the CPU's signature punch. Blocking is crucial in this game because it gives you an opening for a punch. For those that say the jab is useless in this game it is a point getter and can be the difference in winning rounds. I have thrown the CPU off on occasion with my jab, but other times he will counter right though it which happens in real boxing. Just flicking your jab out there isn't a guarantee for success.
That's what I've been doing.
I read that over at the 2Kforums in one of their Q&A. It is to release later this fall, so it should be interesting if true. It can give them a bit more time to fix a few issues based off of the 360.Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
I am not sure how to rate this game yet. Probably around a 7.
The good things about the game are that:
1. you really have to pick your spots because of energy.
2. Clinching really is useful, you have to use it even when you have alot of stamina if your energy is gone. One thing though, you have to land a punch before you clinch or you'll just get caught going in.
3. 1:30 rounds in career mode is the prety good round length.
4. Create a boxer seems pretty decent.
5. Well timed punches can drop a boxer at any time. HAVE NOT seen a flash KO yet so I don't know if they exist.
6. The AI will put up a serious challenge. I am fighting on contender(Middle Level) and don't even have a .500 record yet.
7. Alot of fights go deep to the 9th or 10th round.....but get very few to go the distance.
8. Alot of different angles to throw punches from.
Now for the bad:
1. Sluggish controls. Its nearly impossible to stick & move and flick the jab out there and fight from the outside. Nearly all my fights, I end up fighting inside and going to the body.
2. Blocking doesn't seem to help a whole lot, a hook shot to the arm can send you reeling.
3. No rankings and you are basically fighting bosses in career mode. For example, I lost to the same guy 4 times in a row in career mode until I beat him. You can only choose between a couple guys at a time to fight.
4. All the judges score the fight the exact same way. Pretty sad.
5. Too many knockdowns. A typical fight will have each player tasting the canvas 3 or 4 times. Seen only 1 fight go the distance out of 12+.
6. No stoppages from cuts. I have seen some swelling, but doesn't appear to hinder you a whole lot.
7. Only 4 attributes.
8. Mini games will become monotonous.
9. Start off fighting 10 round fights.
Overall, its a decent game. If it had better movement controls, it would be much better. A typical fight seems to be fighting in flurries. The Opponent will throw 5 punches and attempt to block, you do the same because energy goes down quick.. I haven't found a way to sit on the outside and flick the jab. Stick & move is nearly impossible. SO most fights seem more like a brawl than anything. Not a bad first effort, but the lack of an open career and lack of space to create boxers really are big knocks.
I would be shocked if FN Round 4 doesn't blow this game out of the water. But that being said, I am sure I will get 50 hours of gameplay out of this title so it will be worth the $60 I paid for it.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
I like it. I played 4 games on xbox live against a friend and all 4 games were very good. Only 1 knock down in the 4 matches. I like the approach they took with the stamina. You have to watch it very closely because if your stamina is low your punches will be sluggish. Sometimes your punches wont come out at all if you stamina is totally depleted. I was able to use the dash move to escape trouble. The dash uses stamina also. It has a good rhythm to it. I was shocked when I saw the poor reviews. I give it a 7.5. There is room for improvement and its a little rough around the edges but over all I am having fun with it. Its a good start for 2k boxing however i will be expecting more fore prizefighter 2.Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
Why would TT release this game the same week of Metal Gear Solid 4 this almost as dumb as releasing APF the same day as NCAA Football.
TT need to use Ian Cummings as an example and find out what their base really want because the days of ignoring your consumers are over.Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
A lot of confidence in EA to drastically change this current punchfest, not to mention that it's a year away.Comment

Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?
Releasing a football game the same day as another huge football game releases is a bad idea.
But releasing a 360 only boxing game the same week as a PS3 only major title isn't even close.Comment
