I was Pavlik. MEDIUM difficulty, 2 minute rounds. I somewhat slowed his Step Around Hooks with Hook counters and eventually using decent blocking and right crosses I hurt him with an adrenaline punch and two rights to the body and two to the head put him down for the first and last time.

I have been supporting 2k sports since 9/9/99. Now back to the thread topic.

The more read about this game the more I want to give it a try. If the only positive contribution PF give is stamina this is a major improvement in almost all boxing games. So, far this is a tale of 2 games. Some hate it with a passion and others are enjoying their learning curve and sim like qualities.

I'm not saying that you're an EA defender, just letting you know that your assumptions were wrong. You said that they ignored their customers, which they don't, they never have.

If EA really listened then Madden 09 would be shaping up to be a realistic product, which it's not. I do give Ian credit though, he has been doing a good job of interacting with everyone.

        Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?

Just got to the point in my career where I am the main event and have commentating.

        2 things:

        Commentating is borderline awful.

Using the D-pad for dash is MANDATORY. The game is getting much harder and having the dash 100% work when I need it is a must. D-pad hasn't let me down. The step in punches are really helping on the tougher fighters as well as the clinching.

And as Jaybee mentioned, you should very rarely get hit with step around hooks. Easy to counter and the more you do, the less they throw.

And as someone as else mentioned, if you defend and make your punches count, the computer will adapt and retreat.

After spending about 10 hours with this game, it is easily a 7.5 with collision detection issues preventing a higher score.

There is no doubt in my mind that reviewers don't know or don't care to know how to play. A huge error on 2k's part was not having a better tutorial.

Good point about the dash and the omnipotent(at least to one OSer) reviewers. The collision detection I'm not detecting that much. Also the CPU will back off of his Step around Hooks if you hit him with some, going in a whole different direction with more jabs and straights.

I'm sure people from Prizefighters lurk on these boards and the 2k boards too.

Back to the game, I'm going to try Thelwig's tips and hopefully they work.

I hope in the future more developer would interact with their fan base.

Thats pretty good yo, 1 knockdown and he was out. I slipped a computers hook last night and countered with an adrenaline punch. A stright left(I was fighting Southpaw) and literally knocked a guy with almost full power through the bottom ropes. He got up though.

Have you seen a flash KO? Was that Berto KO a flash KO?

Yeah, there variation. I fought Berto after that and lost a 5 round decision. Next fight I pulverized him with right crosses and knocked him down 3 times en route to a 3rd round KO, but it wasn't easy.
No, the Berto KO was a count out, the accumulation of several punches.

Whoever posted the RB+X = Step in jab and those other hints: Thank you!!

That was exactly what I was looking for: a bit stronger jab. If you hit the guy in the kisser, he is not coming at you any more or at least knocks his punch off target.

The d-pad is way better and I can hop around the ring when I need to. It takes stamina so you can't abuse it, but helps in a pinch.

I still can't clinch though. How close do you have to be? I keep missing or the other fighter punches me every time.

Using the RB+ the face button+ L stick direction gets you different types of punches and steps it seems. There is alot more control than I realized.

To throw a Step Around Hook press the RB+X or Y. For a body Step Around Hook press RB+RT+X or Y.

Oooo, That sucks that the regular jab isn't a Step-in jab.

yeah, the step punches are really helpful. I just went had a good 10 rounder in my career. I knocked the other guy down 2 times (once in the 8th and once in the 10th). I didn't get knocked down at all.

I throw alot of punches from the lean. Meaning I bob and weave and when I am leaning to one side, I throw some good body shots followed by an uppercut. It also really helps to not try to throw too many punches at once. After you land 3-4 punches, back out and put your guard up.

My fingers are sore from all this button mashing. Really miss the FN controls.

Clinch when he is blocking and only when he is blocking. So you may need to block, then throw a few punches to initiate his blocking, then clinch.

No button mashing heel, that seems to just make it harder IMO. Be very deliberate with your button presses. I have started to go in with specific combos in mind, and just pressing the button once not mashing it. It seems to help. Like the other guy said throw 3-4 punches back out and guard, repeat.

Yeah thats what I am trying but when he is blocking I just miss. Like my guy is hugging himself. Maybe I am not close enough.
