the fundamentals of the sport should remain intact if your trying to represent said sport in a video game.
Madden is light years ahead of any boxing game we have. We don't even have a boxing game on the next gen that has rankings.....Thats the equivalent of Madden not having standings or a franchise mode.

We can debate the technical aspects of boxing until we're blue in the face. But Prizefighter's and even FN round 2's gameplay are almost close to sufficient with a few tweaks. What we really need is a robust career mode with rankings and everything else we've mentioned and you'll make alot of boxing fans happy.

I actually prefer the game play of FN3 (minus the parrying issue) for the most part. Yeah some tweaks are needed but FN2 was haymaker city.

I can live with either game if they really boost the career mode. Round 2 may have had the haymaker issue which seemed a little ridiculous, but if you got hit with a haymaker, you just didn't have defense. Yes, the parry looked dumb, but look at what it represented. If someone throws a haymaker and you see it coming and either block it or duck it, there should be a huge advantage to the counter punch. Haymakers, special punches need to have a huge risk/reward factor regardless of how its implemented.

Anyway, I think we all pretty much want the same game, but to me the career mode may even be more important than the in ring action to some degree. I can live with FNRD2, PF but the game lacks real replay value to me because I want a great open ended career mode.

Agreed. A substantial career mode and improved gameplay would be welcomed additions.

I wish we could have the career mode from FN2, there was just so much you can do in that career. I never really cared for the insane amounts of haymakers, but it wasn't a bad game overall. Hopefully EA does bring back a robust career mode for FN4.

Does anyone know why Fight Night Round 2 isn't backward compatable?

It is on the PS3 and Wii, but not the Xbox version. A few were saying way back because of FN3 and EA not wanting to hurt sales......but that was just a rumor. This would be a nice BC title, I was reading on IGN that the game loads but then locks up on the 360 since it isn't one of the supported titles.
