Re: Community Event Updates
On a side note, Mike Greenburg of ESPN Radio trained with Teddy Atlas for a bit just to get better insight into boxing. He laughed and said if he ever fought Atlas, the fight would last two punches. He said he could probably see the first punch but he's so quick, he would never see the second one.
He said boxers are just so quick it's unreal. Golic asked Atlas how long it would take to train Greenburg to participate in a fight. Teddy said you would probably have to spend a couple months training on the technical things before you do anything. Stuff like your stance, move after throwing a punch, keeping your hands up and breathing. He said guys get so excited in the ring initially that they don't allow themselves to see punch or even breathe. After you get the technical stuff down, you would have to spend a few months in controlled sparring sessions before you would ever get into a real fight. Pretty neat stuff this morning.Comment

That's so true about the breathing and relaxing in the ring. Your energy will be SAPPED if you don't know how to do either.
If you tense up too much during sparring or even shadow boxing, it will tax your system so much you'll run out of gas early.Comment

That's pretty cool. I wish I could have heard that.

It took me about 6 months to get my stance down to a level I was comfortable with. When I started it wasn't bad but when I threw certain punches, I would come back off balance. Boxing involves so much coordination and timing its crazy. The good boxers have things like this so down pact that its second nature. But it takes months and even years to get perfected. It is one reason the hispanic boxers are soo good, they are fighting pro in their teens. Its one reason Floyd is soo good, he was boxing ~5 yrs old.Follow me on Twitter - http://twitter.com/complex219Comment

That is my issue. My breathing stinks. You could see it during the videos posted. Shane told me in the corner to breathe, real deep. I did and I was so geeked to just be in the ring with Sergio. The last round I was soo tired I couldn't hardly lift my arms

But it's scary to see how good a top pro-boxer is. He could see everyone's punches from a mile away before it's even thrown. Just twitching your shoulder before letting a punch go is a 'tell' they see from a mile away.
It would have been fun to see Mosely and Mora go at it for 3 minutes.Comment
