Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
I like the sticks. Once the option for the sticks was implemented, it was like a natural transition for me.
I'm going to grab a video cam and post some videos to show how easy it is to throw combos with the sticks. Unless they implement the buttons later on, you're going to have to adjust or dont make the purchase, simple and plain.
Depending on the person, it might take you little while to get it down. I mean, if you've been using buttons all along you have a couple of year experience gap with folks who went with the sticks the very first time. Practice practice, lol......or get that block knocked off.

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
Buttons easy. R4 controls are terrible. A down to up half circle for an uppercut doesn't work when a hook is a down to right quater circle because half the time it ends up throwing that instead. That's why you can't compare it to Street Fighter or DOA right there, all the moves are seperate. Even then you have to push a button to complete the move so if a dragon punch was half circle up you still wouldn't accidently throw a fireball.
That said I did like both in R3 using the buttons for normal punches then the half circle forward for haymakers. Much better than holding RT,holding LT then moving the left stick to dodge, letting go of both buttons, holding RB and trying to do a half circle up that comes out as a quater circle forward. That's just a big mess and it doesn't work imo.Comment

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
Ive never played any of the fight nights online but after spending a hour online playing UFC, Im freaking happy there is no buttons in this game...Man some of you say buttons doesnt mean your not sim or a masher and I agree because I used the buttons and always played sim and never mashed BUT 9 out of 10 guys your gonna face online are MASHERS....UFC online is irking the hell out of me with turbo punches and bad enough when your hit in the UFC game you get stunned like a boss on those old TMNT games!
Ughh, Im just venting...Comment

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
I voted for the sticks because the button interface at this point in time would feel outdated to me when it comes to a boxing game. When the Fight Night series first introduced analog punching, it was a natural transition for me, and I found it to be more fluid and real to the sport, but I'm not about to praise this new TPC system either.
I find it quite ironic that those that worked on FNR4, and are now making their rounds to promote the game, said two of the main reasons for excluding buttons, was to take away the advantage that button users had over stick users, and also to stop the button mashing in general. The first point is well taken, however the latter doesn't past the smell test with me. The TPC IMO also qualifies as mashing except it is being done with the analog stick now; in fact, somebody in here can make the case that a user has more control with the buttons than they do with this new system, and I would feel they're in their rights to have that viewpoint.
As already stated, I never used the buttons in FNR3, only from the vantage point of doing a boxers' signature punch, but as a stick player *pause*, I can say unequivically that TPC isn't the answer. Can anyone here honestly say that it takes skill to use the TPC? When I've used it, it wasn't a problem for me to throw punches, the problem was, regardless of what motion I did with the right analog stick, I was going to throw some type of a punch. Add that to the sped up, more fluent gameplay with dilatory foot work, & what do you get? Exactly what you've seen in all of these gameplay videos, which is two players largely sitting in front of eachother having a slugging/mashing contest. Just aim the right analog stick high and do any type of random motion, you will do a head punch, do a random downard motion with the analog stick and you will go to the body. Arcade-type of players are going to have a field day with this TPC system online, unless they DRASTICALLY drain your stamina if you throw tons of punches, but of coutse people would complain like there's no tomorrow about it. I recognize that a vast majority of people don't care about realism online, they mainly care about winning at any cost. Offline, you should atleast be able to get some type of sim results from your matches seeing as how they have sliders now, but matches online..... Add a little head movement, I can just see this TPC system at work now.

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
Buttons by a country mile. The sticks represent poor game design. At least the original control offered the feeling that each stick was an arm but that made it difficult to punch and move at the same time. The new controls offer nothing except less control. That isnt next-gen thats just stupid.
It reminds me of some of the special moves in DOA and Virtual Fighter. Some of them are just too hard to do in a fast moving game so you have like 20 moves that nobody ever uses. That is poor design. With good game design every move is used. It better to have a fighting game with 20 moves that are part of the battle even if some are risky wildcard moves that are rarely used than a game with 60 moves and only 10 are used in fights.
Thats the problem with the sticks. If I wanted to I could throw a jab, straight right, left hook, right uppercut combo 5/5 times with the buttons with ease. I could practice with the sticks for a month and struggle to pull that combo 5/5 teams with decent speed. If the plan is to make punches less accurate by making the controls less accurate then its utterly asinine.
The only logic in using the sticks would have been to use the range of motion so each jab was thrown in a differnt spot or with different speed. You dont have that. The punches thrown with the stick feel just like the punches thrown with the buttons.Comment

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
Technically you can mash the sticks just like you do buttons BUT the difference is when your smashing the stick most likely your gonna throw something out of whack...Comment

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
i cant even throw jabs with an 100 percent success rate i really tried to give it a chance but i just cant play with the stick and its not fun when i haft to mash the stick in order to win. if they wanna make a boxing sim fix the stamina so u cant button or stick mash and win dont make the buttons overly complicatedComment

At least give us the damn option of using buttons if we want. At least UFC is awesome....Comment
