Re: 24 fights in 73 ovr

Ok guys you all have stirred my interest. I am through 11 fights and have only trained 1 time before each fight. I look at all the different dates for each schedule and they all say 1 training session. How do I get where I can train more than once before a fight.

Maybe I am just not far enough along in my legacy yet??

WHen you pick a fighter, it will ask you what date you want to fight him. The further out you wait, the more training you can get. So lets say its Jan 1 2009, you schedule a fight, you can fight Jan 20 with 1 training session, or scroll down or hit the L1 button (PS3) and go to Feb or March, the # of training will go up (on right hand of screen). I usually go for 2 trainings per fight unless its a big challenge, or big cakewalk. THen i go 3 and 1 respectively.

You too can be a 5* recruit at FSU.......

ok thats what I thought, so it must be because I am just at the start of legacy. I scroll down to the farthest date and still only 1 training option so far.

Out of curiosity, how long do real life boxers usually go between fights (assuming they have opponents lined up ahead of time)?

It depends. Prospects in their first year will usually fight anywhere from 5-10 times depending on their skillset and pedigree. Tyson fought 15 times his first year, and 13 his second. Chavez Jr. Fights often since he did not fight as an amateur. Floyd fought maybe 11 times his first year as well.

Fighters usually taper off as they fight longer fights, the high-level guys usually do it maybe 2-4 times a year depending on what's available and their popularity.

When u are scrolling are you using the R1 (PS3) button? That changes the month. I dont think the fact you're at the beginning has anything to do with it. I could be wrong though.

Put some actual time into practicing the training games and your progress will happen quicker. Sorry, but if you're that far into your career and you're getting anything other than at least a "contender" rating in your training then you just flat out suck at the training games. It's not the game's fault, it's your fault. It's relatively easy if you put the time (and a little bit of thought) in.

No offense, but most of you guys sound like a bunch of babies. It's called training for a reason. It is supposed to be hard and challenging. If it was easy, everyone could do it and everyone would have success right away.

And what do you expect if you auto-train? Do you expect to be a 90 overall in 2 years? Once you get better, the easier the drills get. Try practicing them out of legacy mode too.

Instead of scrolling all the way down, hit the L1 button to go to next month, that will give you more dates. Even in the beginning of legacy mode you can get 2,3 or even 4 training sessions, just move the date further out.

It might be R1 isntead of L1, whatever advances you a month

Re: 24 fights in 73 ovr

There's something off about this game though...

When I first got the game I auto-trained and was in the same situation as the OP and I got frustrated. So I deleted that career and took some time to get good with the training games....now I get champion or upper tier contender on the training games and I have no competition. On the harder difficulties the CPU just throws strategy out of the window and throws like crazy and because the power in both of my hands are so high, and I've been a pretty good counter puncher since I got used to TPC in FNR2 on the xbox, I knock dudes out in the early rounds. And when I put it in Pro and turn the CPU's offensive and defensive awareness all the way up...I get a late round KO.

I haven't come close to even approaching a loss since I got good at the training games and reaped their benefits, the game was more challenging when I auto-trained...right up until the point when the gap in overalls got ridiculous.

I would agree with you guys who say the training games teach you the controls if only two things were true:

1.) the controls weren't virtually the same as the 3 previous Fight Night games, with the exception of making body punches easier. (of course if you're completely new to the series this is moot.)

                      and

2.) the majority of the training games are true to life but have nothing to do with the video game. I'm not entirely sure that you're learning anything on the heavy bag push and the double ended bag. They're timed mini-games.

I guess I have to try to find some middle ground where I do some training and sim some training. But that seems like it'd be too much trial and error for me. I'm already on my second career and if I don't find the proper balance in the next one I don't think I really have the patience to sit there testing out which session to actually play and which one to train. If they had smart AI on the harder difficulties instead of cheap AI then maybe it'd be a different story.

I'm so tired of hearing these comments. The training sucks. Simply as that. With the exception of the Maize bag, double end bag, and sparring.

Stay on your feet? NO boxer can practice a situation like that. Its impossible. Heavy bag push? wtf? I'm no power puncher. I'm an outside fighting, lightweight. Why would I work on pushing a bag? I'm not looking to knock guys out in the 2nd round. But see I'm forced to do this to increase those areas.

You're going to have to go out into the menu and practice each of these modes to death to get a consistent boost in each area of your ratings. Keep in mind, this IS a game, NOT real training for boxing and these modes are supposed to be fun. And I'm sorry, I don't have fun doing something that is a pain to go through.

Contender btw, is 50% of the max points. No better than auto train...so why bother? If you're looking to have your boxer progress parallel to your rank. You're going to need to get champion.

I get to be the 12th ranked fighter and the competition is 90's and 95's?! I cant even create a fighter that high of rank when I can adjust the rating sliders.

I might be wrong about the Contender points. But from what I remember its 50%. Maybe a point more if you're close to Champion.

yup the first an only time Ive done them It gave me memories from when I used to boxed....it also helped me with the controlls....besides that I auto train because 1. If I always get champion I will progress faster than the CPU(I dont take quick fights like most do) 2. Training games Is not my thing(Love choops2k8 but I honestly never played any of those training games)

...but that an opinion...im talking about all of his other statements...
