But nowhere near the level it's at now. Them being able to consolidate resources from NFL2k and NBA2k into one team can not be be understated in terms of the effect it's had on NBA2k's quality - that quality being good enough to - for lack of a better term - 'kill' NBA Live/Elite.

I'm lazy and don't feel like confirming his claims regarding early information about Tekken-Street Fighter. Is that true?
If so, perhaps the guy does have a few sources here or there.
Still, for all we know, this is 100% bull. Or perhaps it's only at the planning stages without one line of code being written.
I'm not getting my hopes up and will take this information for what it is.
But if this were to become reality, some of the things he speaks about are really cool.
Having your own 24/7 show, dynamic and organic commentary, HBO, etc.
Seeing how deep and involved NBA's My Player is, you can see what they could do for boxing.
But they'd have to get Mayweather's name on the game. No question. I don't think there's room for 2 boxing gams, so you need a big name to promote your game.
Everyone, even non-boxing fans, know Mayweather.
That's the right thing for 2K to do if they're going to produce another boxing game.
Hopefully, if this is true, we'll get more details about this further down the road. But they'd have to get Mayweather's name on the game. No question. I don't think there's room for 2 boxing gams, so you need a big name to promote your game.

I think there is always room for more than boxing game. It depends on how well the content is in the game. If there were 3 boxing games on the market well produced and created. I would buy them in a heart beat. Detailed customization and options are key if a company can not get top known boxers.
Take-Two has a boatload of cash though.
They own the GTA, Red Dead, Bioshock and several other high quality IP's.
If they want to make a run on boxing, they have more than enough $$$ to help fun 2K with the project.
That's why I'm skeptical. I doubt there's that much money in boxing.
But, I believe EA signs all their fighters to 1-year contracts. So I suppose there's some legitimacy to the idea of 2K getting the rights to several of the fighters seen in FNC.
Besides, perhaps some of these legends and current boxers might not agree to exclusivity of they know another company wants their rights.
Time will tell I suppose. I'll be interested to hear more news.
There is lots of money in boxing/boxing videogames....not in horrible fights and games.
There are tons of army games on the market that are selling well, guess why? ...and it's not because they are horrible games.Last edited by SHAKYR; 09-26-2011, 08:56 AM.Poe is an advocate for realistic boxing videogames.Comment

Re: 2k and Mayweather Jr., should EA be worried? Visual Concept will be at the reigns
Floyd has been in the Knockout Kings series & Fight Night Round 2, he was never the cover boy in any of them. If the made a game called Floyd Mayweather Boxing & it had great gameplay & fully customizeable options it would sell, even if he was the only featured fighter. Mike Tyson's punchout is unfortunately still considered the greatest boxing game of all time by the casual fans. NBA Live beat out 2K nearly every year, it was promoted well but gameplay always sucked. Eventually 2k took over with their commitment to great gameplay but now that they are adding Jordan to the mix, it will sell based on name value & they should be on top for years.Comment

Re: 2k and Mayweather Jr., should EA be worried? Visual Concept will be at the reigns
I hope this is true. It's time to make the boxing video game more relevant again like how it was during the early days of home video game systems but really took off on the Nintendo with Punch Out and Ring King to the Genesis with Evander Holyfield and there were others as well. Multiple companies making their version of boxing which was fine because there were options and the more to choose from, the better for the consumer. Now with EA as the only game in town for the current gen systems, a little competition can't hurt.
If 2K were to tap back into that market and actually use the power of these next gen systems and did more to duplicate a real boxing environment and boxing experience they could make a mark for themselves. A few things they could implement can range from picking your trainers and corner men, picking your own promotions team or taking on the responsibility of trying to be your own guy, the ability to do specific training for certain opponent styles to avoid the monotony of how training on boxing games has become, catch weight fights, unifying belts, and those are just a couple not to mention having the fight venues and ring activity before, during and after the fights actually feel like a real boxing match.
All the bells and whistles that EA has had an opportunity to do, but have chosen to do cheesy fight/movie modes and bad fight mechanics just waiting to be exploited. Let's hope it's true.Comment

We'll see who shows up: good 2K (NBA, NFL, early NHL) or bad 2K (MLB, later NHL)...but in general, another entrant is a good thing.Comment

Same here. I sincerely hope this is true. Mayweather is a businessman...he's all about his paper. This would be an excellent venture. Seriously, it could become the 'Madden' (speaking in terms of brand recognition and marketability...not game quality lol) of boxing.Comment
