Rees showed a lot of heart and grit tonight, but Broner handled him relatively easily. Good showing, gonna be interesting to see who he's matched up with next. I can see why he's such a polarizing guy, one way or the other he'll have you talking about him.

Re: Adrien Broner is the truth!

Broner is becoming a guy you want to watch more and more. Rees, but forth a great effort, and managed to hit Broner a few times. I like that Broner will take chances when he fights. He goes in looking for the KO and looking to hurt guys. That reminds me of Floyd when he was younger. I hope that he continues to be that type of action fighter. He is a draw, but not quite ready for PPV draws yet. He probably needs to be at 140 (or even better 147) to start making that kind of money.

      Great fight last night though.

He is my 3rd favorite boxer behind Ali and Mayweather because he is himself

yup, he did get tagged too, if Rees had firepower it would have been really interesting. I think Broner's most dangerous quality is that he makes his shots count more than most boxers I see. That uppercut he threw with force, timed it and planned it in my opinion - it's like he was expecting that whole sequence of the knockdown and it played out just like he thought it would.

Re: Adrien Broner is the truth!

Broner is clearly talented and one of the brightest and most skilled stars in the sport right now. Having said that, I really just can't stand the guy and hope someone knocks his block off into the 4th row. I understand that most/all great fighters are arrogant and douchey, but this guy is arrogant and douchey on top of being a phony about being arrogant and douchey, which somehow makes it 10-times worse. It's not clear to me if it's a shtick or what, but if it is he should lose it fast. If it isn't....heaven help anyone that has to deal with him, inside or outside the ring, for the remainder of his career.

Either way, I'm only marginally interested in the guy until he steps up in weight class. I mean, he entered the ring last Saturday at 150-lbs, he could clearly stand to move up. But until he does, if there isn't anyone I want to see him fight at 135 or 140, there's no reason for me to stay interested in him.

Re: Adrien Broner is the truth!

I agree Broner looks to be talented and other than the weight debacle against Escobedo appears to be very dedicated to boxing.

Today and even before the fight against Rees I am reading articles and message boards stating that he needs to move up to 140. I say at 23 years of age what is the rush? I'm an old school guy and believe that he needs to attempt to unify and become the king at 135, before challenging the likes of Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthyse, Lamont Peterson, Amir Khan, etc.

I personally hope as he improves that win, lose, or draw "The Problem" continues to challenge himself. People want to him to lose, but when he is ready I hope he fights the best and takes on all challengers.

One concern I have from my fans point of view is his advisor Al Haymon who appears to have a lot of control on getting his fighters maximum money for minimum risk fights.

When is that ever not the case, in the modern era of boxing, regardless of promoter?

I don't mind if Broner isn't in a rush to move up in weight, I'm just saying there are no fights that interest me until he hits 147 or so.

Unifying 135 is IMO a waste of time and talent. There is one fight left for him at 135, against Rush or whoever. Other than that there is very little money and or names at 135 unless he just wants to keep KOing dudes and looking good. It would be more fun to watch him try to unify 140 and eventually 147. I don't really see him at 154, but it could happen. He needs to get into the ring with a large name to up his recognition and PPV Power eventually. There are no names like that at 135.

154? Maybe in five or six years.

Totally agree. While I don't care for his post-fight shenanigans*, I love watching him fight.
Not only is he insanely talented, but he's not afraid to take shots in order to secure the KO.

*I'm not opposed to a fighter being conceited or display some personality. I'm annoyed with Broner because most of his shenanigans aren't funny. They're just dumb.
I wouldn't be surprised if he writes this stuff out well in advance. He's trying too hard.
Guys like Rampage Jackson or Tex Cobb were genuine characters that were fun and entertaining.
We get it Broner, you're trying to be a villain to help your marketing value. I understand that. But it doesn't feel genuine.

I agree; that's his biggest problem. He seems to be a phony, and he's a phony at being a douche. If he was just genuinely arrogant, you can sort of deal with that (Mayweather for example, or basically any other fighter), but what's so bothersome about Broner is that it seems to be a very poorly put-on schtick that just isn't working. He's a good enough fighter that he doesn't need the WWF antics. Just fight; people will pay attention.
