    Re: Boxing Off-Topic

I like Mitchell. He's modest, well spoken and respectful of the sport and other fighters.
I also think his skill is underrated. He'll never be mistaken for Larry Holmes, but the guy did beat some fighters who had some decent pedigree; Guys who had amateur and pro experience.
If he had any sort of chin, I think he'd be a legit top 15 heavyweight (if that even means anything today).

Arreolla can trash-talk Mitchell all he wants, but in the end, at least Mitchell always came in shape and gave his opponent and his fans his best every night.
    Can 'Nipples' say that? No.

Now that Arreolla has this win, I hope he does something with it. Fight Wilder and make sure to put in the work necessary to use those boxing skills he's been bragging about.

I like Mitchell a lot too, and want to root hard for him. But he looks awkward in the ring, can't take a heavyweight punch (I mean, he got knocked out by a Cruiserweight), and doesn't seem like he has the skills to do anything in the sport beyond what he's done (pound on tomato cans). He's clearly not in the same class as the top heavyweights, and he can't compete with the 2nd-tier contenders. He's way too big to ever fight at any weight other than heavyweight, and at 31 years old, it doesn't seem plausible that he'll improve all that much in terms of skills or physical attributes.

I really don't even think Arreola is particularly good, which means if Mitchell can't even go one round with him, I don't see a future for him in the sport. I'd be happy to be wrong.

Very well said. Arreola and Mitchell's shared status as American heavyweight contenders entering the fight last week only proves the sad state of Uncle Sam's big men in boxing.

Mitchell's flaws are glaring. Nothing replaces ring time, even for a fine athlete such as Mitchell. You can't just plug a thoroughbred from another sport into boxing and expect him to compensate for lack of hundreds of rounds of amateur experience.

I never heard of him, but I see he's climbing up the rankings.

Pretty much agree, but Arreola is a pretty tough dude. He got his nose broken early by Bermane Stiverne and still finished the fight. He was handily beaten, but he was competitive against a good fighter under the most adverse situation. He got himself in good shape for Mitchell.

Im not sure if they have FNF replays on ESPN3.com but the app on XboxLive has it. (Im assuming PS3 does also). Dude is a badass. He has two fights on there vs Mike Mollo (i think thats his name). Check him out.

I think they have the fights on youtube as well.

Looks pretty good. He has good power and decent movement. But Mollo did knock the guy down twice in the first fight. I saw the second one in very low quality.

Not too interested in Chavez, Jr./Vera this Saturday, but am looking forward to Adonis Stevenson and Tavoris Cloud.

I'd like to see Kovalev fight the winner or Hopkins. I don't see how Bernard wins that fight.

I lost interest when Chavez showed how little he cared for the fight by not making weight by a mere 13 ****ing pounds. So he will weigh in at 173 rehydrate to what 180-185 and just pummel the **** out of Vera, who I believe had a chance at 160 (if that is where the fight was suppose to be contested.) No way I would take this fight if I was Vera I would demand my money thought because again if the fight was suppose to be at 160 and the best he could do was 173 then he pretty much violated the contract, make his promoter pay for his laziness.

I'd be shocked if he ONLY hydrated back to 185. I bet it's closer to 190 or more.
The original catchweight was supposed to be 162, then 168 and now 173 and some have said he won't even make that weight.
That to me shows a complete lack of respect for the sport or his opponent - who's making six-digits extra for JR not making weight.

I really don't see him doing much at 168 and especially at 175. Imagine him in the ring with Stevenson?
He's feasted on guys at 160 because of an obvious size advantage. With that gone, he'll be out of the sport in less than 2 years.

Agree completely Money. I get really, really annoyed when fighters don't make weight. I hope he does go up to 175 and gets the crap beat out of him.
