      Re: Boxing Off-Topic

For anyone wondering why boxing isn’t as popular as it should be, I present Exhibit A:
The WBA World Championships Committee issued a resolution to Uzbek Ruslan Chagaev, who until now held the heavyweight title, as there has been no intention to fulfill his mandatory commitments within the category.

Ruslan Chagaev was beaten by Lucas Browne for the WBA heavyweight strap.
Browne tests positive for PEDs so the title is handed back to Chagaev who is ordered to fight Fres Oquendo as his first mandatory challenger.
FRES. OQUENDO. A mandatory challenger. The same man who has not been inside a ring for over 2 years.
How the BLEEP is this guy a mandatory fight???

If that wasn’t hilarious enough, the winners of the upcoming Luis Ortiz-Alexander Ustinov and Wladimir Klitschko-Tyson Fury bouts will face one another where that winner is forced to fight Oquendo to decide who will be the WBA champion.

Even Hollywood couldn't make this stuff up.

You did an excellent job distilling/simplifying this down to the extent that it's possible to do so, and I still didn't understand it.

haha, hilarious. Could be stuff for a new movie ... IMDB-Rating 2.3/10

seriously, as long boxing has no Federation like FIFA, NBA, NFL, NHL, it will stay where it is.... Every of those Organisations have a kind of League, a Champions Cup, no ducking, real rules (not that jokey stuff the boxing-commissions are doing...some dubios stuff going around there). And something you can easily read up, easily understand if your new to this sport.

              Yes!
Amazing that this fight will be free while the Crawford-Postol fight was PPV.

I agree with you in principle, although I'd say FIFA is barely better than what boxing is right now...

Also, the NBA lacks a lot of credibility in my eyes. But, to your point, all are better than what boxing has (which is essentially nothing).

I think the NFL is the best-run sports league in the country, if not the world. It obviously has its share of problems, and it's not the most player-friendly by any means, but from the fans' perspective, the NFL basically dwarfs all other US pro sports leagues in terms of interest, revenue, and consciousness by a wide margin.

Now where Mr. "Corrupt"-Blatter is gone i think it's going back to a more reliable state. Anywhere the big$ is grinning at the people there is a chance of shady things going on in the background.

I don't have any in-depth infos about the NBA, NHL and NFL.... but i didn't hear anything 'dramatic' like the Blatter-Affair. What's going on with the NBA?

What's crazy is that the NFL owes a lot of its popularity to gambling.
Is there a better sport to gamble on than boxing?

If boxing was run like the NFL or UFC, where fighters were forced to fight the best in minimal weight classes and only one belt, it would regain it's foothold within the sporting conscience.
It's hard to fathom that 60 years ago, boxing was considered a top-3 sport.
Lightweight championships were selling out stadiums.

It's utterly disgusting what greedy and corrupt promoters, managers and organizational entities have done to this proud sport.

DLH is the one I dislike the most right now. He has gone over and above to shield his top fighter from the most anticipated fight in years.
He and Yellow should be ashamed of themselves.
It says something when the WBC was the only sound voice of reason in that whole mess.

Yeah college basketball and the NFL. The fantasy sports betting in the NFL has taken it to another level.

I wish it were that simple...it's a start, but the whole entire organization is totally corrupt from top to bottom.

Nothing in the NBA that I can prove in any rigorous fashion, but I was foisting my own opinion into the discussion. Highly subjective/speculative on my part, so take my comments with a grain of salt. But the NBA is the only major (US) sports league that I'm aware of that had a referee admit that he influenced the outcomes of games in the interest of bettors and the league. Yes, Tim Donaghy is not the most reliable guy, but anyone that saw the 2002 Western Conference Finals game 6 can't possibly rule out the allegations completely...And the NBA always seems to have some air of in-authenticity surrounding its outcomes in my own opinion - i.e. the Draymond Green suspension seemingly timed to extend the series, etc.

But back on-topic (despite the title of this thread )...De la Hoya is bad, but he's just the latest in a long line of scoundrels, con-men, and criminals to control the sport. It's best not to invest, to be honest - I'll get excited about the occasional good fight, but at the end of the day, it's a sideshow in my sporting landscape. If I was any more invested, I would just be ticked off too much to ever enjoy it.
