more drama from conor's camp.....paulie's out due to some leaked photos from camp that didn't make paulie look good at all. one had his face pretty battered (with headgear on) and another with him on the canvas (from a push according to paulie). wonder if floyd is sparring with any mma fighters to prepare for the fight....lol.

i know they don't want too big of a challenge after the tough fight against wlad but will this fight even be on ppv? what about fury, parker or ortiz?

Big difference: You're comparing Juan Manuel Marquez, perhaps the greatest counterpuncher in this generation of boxing, to Conor McGregor, whose striking technique is crude at best.

Mayweather will KO McGregor only by stoppage, not by a true KO. McGregor will tire badly -- stamina has been an issue in shorter MMA fights for him -- and get peppered repeatedly in later rounds by Floyd's accuracy. McGregor's face will be a pinata, and his eyes will swell badly. Expect the ref to stop this farce by the ninth or 10th round.

It will definitely not be on PPV in the states.

EDIT: Wilder just called out Joshua to a November bout in the USA.

I don't think that it will bother Floyd in the least if he dominates the fight all the while collecting another fortune. He hasn't been knocking out guys lately anyhow.

Having said that I think the fight could be stopped hurt-wise rather than cut-wise. Conor is slightly more a boxer than Alan Alda was a doctor in the 70's-80's.

That's funny. Wilder must be a masochist, wanting to start the inevitable decline of his overprotected career.

Joshua beats Wilder with ease. Joshua actually can box. Wilder is the ultimate one-trick pony of boxing. Absolutely nothing but a big right hand.

I think Wilder is looking at the money angle to see what he could get. He's making Adrien Broner money right now ($1 million per fight give or take). Considering he was offered $4.5 million to fight Povetkin the smart move might be to fight Joshua.

Saw that, and my take on it was that Paulie is just not cut out to be a sparring partner. When you agree to be the sparring partner for a guy going into a big fight your pride has to go out the window.

So they tried to make Conor look good at your expense. That comes with the territory.

Now they did hire Cortez to ref the sparring sessions and he has said it got more heated than typical sessions, so maybe there is more to this. Conor does seem to have a unique skill in getting under people's skin.

I just want to see real video footage. Not strategically taken pics. No workouts of him doing mma drills with his striking coach. When there has been straight boxing footage he has looked awful

You're correct, of course - when you agree to be someone's sparring partner, you are agreeing to essentially be 'used' by the camp that brought you in.

Having said that, Paulie is a prideful guy and a 2-time titleist (whatever that means, but still...he wasn't nobody), and only very recently retired, so his competitive fire still burns hot. I think it's one thing to be brought in as a sparring partner to help a guy get prepared for a fight (which it seems Paulie was willing to do), but it's another thing entirely to let a guy's camp publicly embarrass and humiliate you by releasing heavily-curated photos from the sessions that make it look like you're getting dominated (which it seems Paulie wasn't willing to do). At some point, pride is not going to allow you to let your reputation get trashed like that without a response, even if it's probably being over-blown in Paulie's mind. I think most boxing fans understood that those photos were selected specifically for effect and don't put any stock into them - but then again, this event and the ridiculous lead-up to it is being followed almost entirely by non-boxing fans.

I suppose in the end, ggsimmonds summed it best - Paulie just isn't cut out to be a sparring partner. At least not this soon after he retired.

you are exactly right....conor is not remotely close to marquez, i was just comparing the situation where floyd would open himself up to get hit. conor's best bet is to concentrate on defense and conserving energy because he will miss alot against floyd. and he will need pinpoint accuracy on punches he does connect with, if very many punches at all.

i know it won't bother him in the fact he wins the fight, but seeing how this fight should be an exhibition anyways, he has a ton more to lose than conor does. IF floyd doesn't have conor battered by the later rounds, what happens then?

the referee in the actual fight might be a big factor depending on what he lets conor get away with....cortez said conor "could pop" so i would tend to believe him considering his experience. did paulie no longer want to get battered by conor? I believe that Conor's camp may feel that the only way for them to win is to get under Floyd's skin and cause him to lose focus. If so, Conor may be willing to take a deduction in points if it means Floyd loses focus.

Even though I still feel this fight is not much more than a gimmick, I'm starting to think it may have some entertainment value to it. So if this was part of the sell job, it worked.
