Great to see George Kambosos vs. Devin Haney will be on regular ESPN saturday, June 4th, live from Australia. This should be an exciting fight for the undisputed lightweight championship. I think Haney is the more skilled fighter, but Kambosos is a dedicated warrior who will be fighting in front of a home crowd. I'm picking Haney by a very narrow decision. I think his pure boxing skill will be enough to prevail.

What about Romero demanding a rematch with Gervonta?Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
was his inability to stay in that sharp focus mode he was in until the 5th !! he got sloppy with his head movement and did not snap his punches back for anticipation counters!! he in my opionion had davis where he wanted him but the difference is a champion stays focused for all 12 regardless of the situation davis timed that counter romero ran into it romero though shouldve been given a chance to go out on his shield!! rolly needs two fights and a rematch!! I would love to see tank vs teo!!THANKS FOR THE TRADE SANDIEGO KEEP RIVERS WE'LL TAKE ELIComment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
He still got KOed by less than Gervonta’s Sunday punch and his pre-fight and post-fight comments haven’t endeared himself with the only man that could give him that second chance. He has no leverage and that might go for other fights. “Deserves got nothing to do with it.”Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Haney with a fairly easy victory over Kambosos. I had it 116-112, as did two of the judges. Undisputed champion at the age of 23... That's mighty impressive. As a side note, I hope I'm not the only one who thinks Timothy Bradley is one of the worst commentators in boxing history. I couldn't wait for this fight to end just so I wouldn't have to hear him anymore lolComment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Yeah, Haney's good and I'd like to say I appreciate him from the "sweet science" aspect but I found the fight boring even early when I gave Kambosos a chance. In a division with Lomo, Gervonta, and Ryan Garcia Haney's Pernell Whitaker-ness doesn't appeal to me. If he squares off against one of those guys (or Teo) I guess it could get interesting.
Speaking of the referee and your Whitaker comment - it wouldn't have changed the outcome but Haney's holding was too much and I would have wanted the ref to discourage it by issuing warnings and threatening to take a point away. You should be able to just hold 10 times per round without a word. I think that's partly why I had the fight scored like you guys and the judges while on the internet and tim B was calling for a shutout. If Kambosas does more damage and is trying to fight in a given round, I'll give it to him even if Haney landed more (many of them jabs) ...even compubox had Kambosas outlanding I think 3 rounds, and even there I don't htink he got credit for some of the body work.
More on the Ref - He absolutely should have taken a point away from George for pinning Devin's glove and trying to hit him at the same time - that was egregious.
Final vent is that boxing needs to start earlier and end earlier (host country notwithstanding) I don't think anyone would complain on the east coast with a 7-10 or 8-11pm format. Also after the KO, it took way too long to get the main event going - you can't take your audience for granted and think they'll just hang around no matter how long it takes - get that ISH GOING MAN!
Same thing with the Lemieux fight - we don't need 1am end times.
needs a re-think for sure.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Naoya Inoue - WOW.
SpoilerThis guy is an absolute must-see fighter. I really hope he starts getting a lot more publicity in North America.
He reminds me of when GGG was on that 20+ KO streak. Every fight is explosive and he can end a fight at any time.Comment

I think he'll break through just based on his awesome talent, but it would help if his fights didn't air Tuesday morning.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Berlanga has a tough fight in a few minutes and hasn't KOed anyone in three fights. He just hasn't been able to set up his considerable power part fault to his less than considerable jab.
Berlanga -275
Angulo +220
Angulo hasn't done much since Benavidez obliterated him.

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
This was a tough fight and he got the job done but Berlanga's most sensational act was when he inexplicably "longingly" bit Angulo on the neck (if memory serves me correct). Was it his constant jab or the threat of power that got him to a decision? His jab still seems more like it's being pushed than flicked. Not a terrible bout.
On to Beterbiev-Smith. Beterbiev's savage assaults sometimes leave him open and he has been cracked good (by Jeff Page) and great (by Callum Johnson) both resulting in knockdowns. Joe Smith is getting seasoned and definitely has more than a puncher's chance. I confess I've been looking forward to this fight for sometime.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Beterbiev vs Smith tonight on ESPN at 10pm. I can see this fight going either way. I think it could come down to who has the better chin and better defense. If I were a betting man I would go with Beterbiev by TKO, somewhere around rd 10. But... I'm not a betting man, so there's that lolComment

Despite his height/reach advantage Smith has no problem with occasional crowding and fighting inside where he will be at a disadvantage against Beterbiev. If he's wary of coming close that might throw his overall game off. Although the favorite has defensive lapses his technical superiority favors him wearing down Smith at the mid or late round point. But Smith hits so hard who knows?Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Welp.... Beterbiev made that look easy, and Smith helped him make it look even easier. No defense whatsoever.Comment
