The dude looks like he could grow to 154 without much effort. But seeing as he's 30, he's been able to maintain his weight pretty well. I'm kind of shocked he can still cut to 140.

Do you gents think Algieri beats Pac?
Pacman wins easy IMO. Pacquiao still has great hand speed that would give Algieri problems.

Doubtful, but who else does the head bob-guard up better than Algieri?

lol why is algeri even being mentioned in the same sentence as pacquiao? Pacquiao destroys him, easily. Algeri looked better than expected, but he's fought nobody notable other than ruslan, who he beat, but it wasn't like he dominated him. And ruslans not exactly top tier.

You know why. There are not a lot of options for Pacquiao as long as all of Golden Boy fights on Showtime. Who of the non-GBP boxers are there for him to fight? Bradley again, Marquez again, again, again, again, again, Mike Alvarado its slim pickings for HBO especially if they are gonna charge people PPV money to see him.

It's too bad because it seems like Manny still maybe has a little bit of gas in the tank to fight at the p4p level. HBO has a couple of guys between 140-147 but for the most part Showtime has it locked down. At least as far as the up and comers you'd want to see him against.

Holyfield finally retires. Amazingly he blew (or paid out) most of his fortune.

                Re: Boxing Off-Topic

Finally just caught up on the last 3 weeks' worth of cards in about 2 nights of binge-boxing-viewing.

Nothing to add to the discussion of Cotto-Martinez that's already occurred here. Honestly, it's been coming for S-Mart. Great fighter, but he was down in his last 3 fights, and his last 2 fights he barely even won. It was clear he wasn't the same guy for about a year now. Really, in retrospect, the fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. looks like it was the beginning of the end for him (I think that's where he originally hurt his knee, and he also got pounded in that last round and really took some of the aura off of him). He used to never keep his gloves up by his head, he would defend by relying on his quick reflexes and lightning fast hands, neither of which we saw in that Cotto fight. His heart is huge for coming back and making it somewhat of a fight, but he made Cotto look like a 1988 Mike Tyson (which we all know he's not...well, all except Max Kellerman). When the end comes it's always tough to watch, but the end has clearly come for Martinez. I don't want to see him fight again, for his sake - the seen with his trainer in the corner before the fight was stopped was heartstring-pulling. If I could understand Spanish I'm sure it would have been all the more touching.

I think Algieri is a tough dude who showed balls of steel to come back from those first knockdowns, but I'm not sure he won the fight. Regardless, it was close - way closer than anyone would have predicted - and if it's close, it's hard to complain one way or the other. I still want to see Provodnikov against anyone more than I want to see Chris Algieri again, but kudos to that guy for putting in an effort for books.

The Showtime card from last weekend was pretty good - at some point, I'm just going to go to the StubHub center for the next card, because they seem to produce some pretty hellacious fights there. The Guerrero fight was wildly entertaining - Kamegai is a super-tough dude; I can't believe he never even wobbled after taking some of those shots from Guerrero. And on the undercard, this Lomachenko guy is looking like a serious pro. Although hard to tell for sure, since Gary Russell reminds me of a guy that has a rapid-fire automatic machine gun that shoots peas; I guess if you get hit with enough of them in a row, it might cause some damage, but I'd rather have a 12-gauge that shoots buckshot.

Will try to catch tonight's HBO card live.

I agree with everything you said, except that I can't get interested in a Robert Guerrero fight. He was at his most interesting when challenging Broner in the streets a couple of years ago.

Wow, crawford knocked gamboa out. Didn't expect gamboa to get knocked out like that. That was a good fight.

It was. When Gamboa had him hurt he needed to go to the body to bring the hands down and slow him trying to hold. He didn't and it cost him.

I wouldn't mind seeing it again, but at 135 I think Gamboa is at a disadvantage.

Yes, Gamboa gave up too much in this fight.

Amazing fight. I think it's FOTY over Molina-Matthysse because of a lot of variables (skill, drama, ranking of both fighters, etc). Gamboa started becoming predictable and this allowed Crawford to pick him apart. The way Crawford was able to land his shots at a lunging Gamboa, while he was backing up, was a thing of beauty. Both guys only helped their careers IMO.

But WTH is wrong with 30 Cent not standing by Gamboa after the loss? I guess $ can't buy class.

Why would he move up in weight to fight a relatively unknown commodity in Crawford?
Between 126 and 130, there were a lot bigger fish to fry. I would have loved to see him fight Garcia at 130.
