The Pac/Floyd fight was a flop because people came in with the expectations that it will be competitive and it wasnt.
it will be interesting to see what each guy's strategy will be....we pretty much know floyd's MO, defense first, counterpunch, low risk situations. it NEVER changes. we have no clue what conor's will be.

For all we know, he might have had a bruised up face because Conor head-butted him or elbowed him or something. We really have no idea.
Paulie also mentioned that he had done some sparring in preparation, so he could have been touched-up during those sessions as well.

I'm not paying for this fight, but I'm very interested to see what transpires.
I refuse to believe this is going to be a straight-up boxing match.
I gotta believe both fighters have agreed to make sure neither fighter looks bad.

I wouldn't be shocked if we see Mayweather dominate for a couple of rounds, and then McGregor kicks him in the head and is disqualified.
Floyd will know it's coming and do his best WWE impression to make sure it looks as realistic as possible.

I simply cannot fathom that this will be a legit boxing match. Because if it is, and both fighters put out their best performance, the fight shouldn't last more than 30s.

Which is exactly why I laughed my head off when Floyd told Stephen A. Smith he was taking the fight to McGregor.

Please. When is the last time Mayweather was the aggressor in a fight? Twelve to 15 years ago?

          This. Will. Not. Happen.

The fight contract stipulates McGregor will face MASSIVE financial penalties if he resorts to any MMA moves. It's boxing only.

McGregor never would risk that since the only reason he's participating in this fight is money.

            Agree. This is Thunderlips-vs-Rocky.

Although, I have to say, for all the b*tching I do about wishing aspects of boxing would go back to the old school days, I guess here we are: this is Ali-vs-Inoki 2017 version. Be careful what you wish for, I guess....

"Don't sell McGregor short. He doesn't have to do too much to win. All he has to do is get him in the corner and bang him. Put his hands up over his head, get down low, keep coming in and throw punches once you get him against the ropes. "He's going to tie him up and try to hit him on the break. (McGregor has to) put his hands up, stay right on top of him and keep him from hitting him. It's going to be an interesting fight. People are selling (McGregor) short. This guy is an athlete. He sees a lot of money, and he sees a medal on his chest if he can get over this hump."

larry selling this fight too?.....lol. but it is just not that easy. let's see what conor has on his side. height, reach and the element of surprise. floyd has no clue what he has to deal with. with that reach advantage, i would say jab, jab, jab until you can't jab anymore. it worked for oscar until he abandoned it in their fight. floyd had no answer for it. with the height, stay on top of floyd at all times. keep your hands up high. tie him up. make him work to punch and hit you clean. keep him busy worrying about what you are doing rather than let him get comfortable and box your ears off. if conor doesn't tire in the later rounds (as expected), it could get VERY interesting.

so did i....he's full of it. but this and now agreeing to 8 oz. gloves? he might be biting off more than he can chew at this point. maybe gambling on the fact he could hurt conor easier with 8 oz. gloves than conor can hurt him?

Nah. Anybody whose watched MMA would never compare Conor to 2 professional wrestlers. Will Conor be outclassed? Hell yeah. But it will be a fight.

I also dont get the "Conor will get DQ'd" theory. Conor is getting anywhere from 60-80 mil for this fight. No one is expecting him to win. He is fighting the greatest boxer in a generation.

People think his ego is so big that he's going to kick Floyd, lose out on 60 mil and get suspended for 1-2 yrs simply because he is losing a fight to a all time great in a sport he's never fought? Huh?

Total PR ploy by Mayweather. The Nevada commission does not allow 8-ounce gloves for junior middleweight bouts, and Mayweather knows it.

Actually the commission is considering it because both Floyd and Conor requested it. That request will be heard at next week's hearing.

Insane money. One report if the PPV buys go through the roof and into the stratosphere:

This is the plan of everybody that ever fought Mayweather.

The comparison wasn't so much that Conor is like a professional wrestler (or that Floyd is like Rocky, for that matter), I was more referring to the fact that this entire event is a publicity stunt moreso than an actual legitimate bout.

it's true....weird considering this is conor's first pro fight and he's facing a legend with possibly smaller gloves. like i said, i think floyd is gambling on hurting and maybe taking conor out. he just said he would "fail" if he doesn't knock conor out. (which is true, imo), however, floyd doesn't knock people out. for him to try to do that would mean he would risk getting knocked out himself, which i just don't see happening. he's all about the W, not knockouts. not only that, with his brittle hands, smaller gloves could backfire. also, him trying to slug with conor would play right into conor's strategy, which would NOT be a smart move on floyd's part.
