I'll be so happy when this farcical sideshow is over with, so that actual boxing can take over the boxing conversations again. This is not to criticize anyone on here for discussing it - it is, for better or worse, the major boxing topic in the popular discussion (and admittedly fun to talk about) - but I'm more referring to major sports media outlets.

The 'event' will almost certainly be a major letdown, then after a week of everyone complaining about whatever happened, everyone will be on to the next thing. And the NFL will be kicking off. So, I suppose all will be right in the world again.

bradley deserved a shot after two tough fights with manny.....if floyd wanted to fight him, they could have made it happen. not saying floyd was ducking him, but too much risk, i guess. he would have made a pretty good choice for floyd's 50th fight. already was on ppv, tough, experienced fighter, etc. instead, we get this debacle.

Well, I'm sure the entire boxing fan community agrees with you, but after seeing what they had to do (darn near move heaven-and-earth) to get Mayweather and Pacquiao in the ring together, there was virtually no chance that any further Mayweather-Arum fights would ever be arranged again. I mean.....boxing, am I right? So stupid.

Nice article about what Floyd's sparring partners have to say about boxing Floyd:
Errol Spence Jr., Zab Judah and other professional fighters who face Mayweather daily marvel at what makes him unbeatable.

                    Spot-on.

But the problem is this "fight" will do even more damage to the sport of boxing than the Pacquiao-Mayweather farce did.

Eyeballs will be drawn to this spectacle by incessant, over-the-top media coverage. People will expect an action fight -- even though Mayweather NEVER delivers them -- and instead be disappointed by another snoozefest.

Then once the promotional drums start beating with thunderous syncopation for Canelo-GGG in late August, general sports fans will shrug their shoulders and say: "Nah, I'm not falling for that crap. I paid $100 for Mayweather-McGregor, and it sucked. Boxing sucks."

                    Sad.

not only that, floyd insulting our intelligence saying conor has the edge "on paper". and "he owes the public after the manny fight". really floyd? it's getting ridiculous at this point. just got word lomo is interested in sparring with conor. he could use the press. that would be the closest thing to fighting floyd for conor...maybe even better.

TBH, the fact that he could batter a retired, out of shape (for boxer's standards) former champ is still impressive.
I would have guessed Paulie would have toyed with him even if Conor is younger and been training.

Of course, this whole thing could be part of the hype machine. Wouldn't doubt if it was.
Even in Paulie's disparaging quotes, he doesn't really trash his skills like I would have expected.

I'm not sure it will be that bad. Conor will come to fight and will likely be made a fool of by Mayweather. I think it will be reminiscent of Maidana/Floyd 1 with the exception that Conor will likely gas by round 5-6. I have no doubt it will be entertaining but entertaining for the wrong reasons.

The Pac/Floyd fight was a flop because people came in with the expectations that it will be competitive and it wasnt.

Floyd isnt insulting your intelligence. He isnt saying that to get true hardcore boxing fans interested in the fight. He's saying that for the casual fan who rarely watches boxing. He's trying to draw them in. Everything Floyd has said while promoting this fight I've pretty much ignored.

I'm still not sure that's what happened, though...I mean, it's not particularly important, but Paulie was the one that was calling for the full tape to be released, so he must be pretty confident that he would come off looking pretty good if the full sparring session was available for public consumption. For all we know, he might have had a bruised up face because Conor head-butted him or elbowed him or something. We really have no idea.
