it's win for conor.....going 10 rounds against a legend and holding his own. and never going down in the process. especially in his pro debut. it's a loss for floyd. took too long for the KO (or stoppage). letting conor go 10 rounds and having conor win a round (or any rounds for that matter) against him. yes, he did knock him out but any boxer used to going 10 or 12 rounds would have since he could barely hold up his arms after the 9th. if he knocks him out within the first 3 rounds, then MAYBE it's a win for floyd.

Here is my real take on the fight. It went the way Floyd wanted it to but that was expected. As I said weeks ago, no one who watches both sports regularly have him a decent shot to win.

With that said, Conor accounted himself well and proved my point. Just because you are a mma fighter doesn't mean some of those skills aren't transferable into the boxing ring. It doesnt mean you are going to be lost in the ring. It doesnt mean that good amateurs are automatically going to beat you.

Did Floyd give away round 1-3? No, he gave away round 1. Round 2 was close. Round 3 he was active. You could also argue he lost Round 7. So lets stop it with the "Floyd let Conor win rounds" stuff.

Did Floyd being 40 matter? Sure but he looked EXACTLY the same he did against Andre Berto at 38. Berto is a former boxing champion and he won less rounds and landed less punches than Conor.

If your response to discount Conor is "Well he lost"....well no ****. Thats what he was supposed to do but most of the people in this thread werent saying he was just going to lose. No one was discussing this like GGG/Canelo (and rightfully so). They were describing it as how and all time elite boxer was going to embarrass Conor. How Conor was going to look like he didnt belong in the ring. That didnt happen.

Its a win for both of them and its a win for the UFC.

Floyd earned 200-300m. He got a KO in an exciting fight.

Conor made 100m, looked good at times and introduced himself to a new segment of fans. He can go back to MMA and sell even more fights now. I had boxing fans walking out of my house telling me they dont watch MMA but they will watch the next Conor fight.

The UFC gets their fighter back and will likely sell more fights with him.

Couple of things I saw.

Conor was close on the score cards when the fight was stopped. First 4 rounds he looked very good but ran out of gas after 5-6.

As expected the ref jumped into every clinch in most cases much too soon.

Floyd knows all the tricks but this turning his back crap was over the top. Ref should have warned him about that.

Floyd got hit with stuff he never would have been touched with a few years ago.

Conor gassed got beat by a superior boxer even at Floyd's advanced age.

Maybe should've been warned for that but Connor also should've been warned for the continued hammer fists to the back of the head too. They let that go a lot too. So really that evened out

i guess in a sense, yes it is. it sold boxing fans on UFC, if anything. don't know about MMA fans being sold to boxing though. maybe if floyd knocks him out early. probably would have been a good idea to have canelo and GGG there at the fight to promote their upcoming showdown next month. i know DLH absolutely hated this fight, but why not use it to their advantage? maybe steal some publicity back for their fight and bring over some MMA fans in the process.

Sure but what was he supposed to do? I would rather have seen a ref who let the guys at least try to punch out of some of these clinches and after Floyd turned his back on Conor twice I would have given him a stern warning then start to deduct points. No way was Conor going to win this boxing match but a more even playing field would have been nice.
Hopefully Floyd rides off into the sunset. He's done.

I had an issue with that. He refused to let Conor work in the clinch. With that said, Conor needed to learn how to clinch in a boxing match. He was clinching like an MMA fighter with double unders and over unders.

Never wouldve happened.

Canelo/GGG is a HBO fight not a Showtime fight. Floyd hates Golden Boy. They wouldnt even have let Oscar in the building.

If you come away from that fight thinking Conor can continue boxing, nothing I say will change that. To compare this fight to other past fights from Floyd doesn't seem fair either, because I'd argue Floyd came in with a different mindset against Connor versus facing another boxer.

i figured that since they are HBO fighters and floyd is under showtime...but if they buy the tickets, why not? they get their faces shown and generate some interest. and get under floyd's skin too. lol.

I wish Floyd would have agreed to a MMA fight also. I know he would never do it as he would get destroyed, but Conor stepped up and met him in the ring so he should do the same.
