Yup. I got the email too. They are definitely feeling theirselves after signing ggg

the stupid thing about this is if you compare to netflix which has much higher production costs, it seems unfair. To their side though, it's a much lower sub-base so idk...

My biggest problem with it is that they are doubling the charge without adding anything more significantly. I mean I really only watch it on the weekend because they dont show any live other sports during the week really in the U.S. besides soccer cricket, and gymnastics. They really need to atleast try to get some college sports atleast.

          Re: Boxing Off-Topic

I think the other problem I have with either subscription or PPV models is that in boxing, unlike other forms of entertainment, there is no guarantee either of amount of entertainment or quality of entertainment. Of course there are bad movies and TV shows that are a waste of your time, but at least with those things, you pay a certain amount of money and you know you're getting 100 minutes or whatever of a narrative.

With boxing, you can plunk down $75 and get 90 seconds of a fight. Or a DQ 2 rounds in. Or 12 rounds of the most boring non-action ever. Or 2 guys you have no interest in or in a weight class you have no interest in. I understand that's the nature of the beast, but when a fight is on something like Showtime or HBO, it's additional entertainment, and you have a lot of other options on that channel that make it worthwhile. When it's a dedicated PPV or something like a subscription service, unless you're a really dedicated fan of the sport, I just find it's not worth it to me.

Yeah, also with the heavy hitters that DAZN has some people will cancel the service for a couple of months and re-up when GGG or Canelo fight. I think that might have contributed to the price increase but obviously, the talent is the number one reason for the spike.

No. DAZN's monthly churn rate is too high, so they're offering a better deal than the existing $9.99 per month to encourage annual subscriptions and also make more money from those who want to kick the tires just to get a Canelo fight.

Canelo for $20 -- and a full month of combat sports -- is still cheaper than $80 for one night of Canelo. I'll continue with the annual subscription.

How is DAZN doubling the price when the annual plan breaks down to $8.33 per month, less than the current $9.99 per month?

I agree DAZN needs more content than combat sports and baseball (I could care less about baseball). Goodell has said the NFL wants to put Sunday Ticket on more than just DIRECTV and is eyeing a streaming option. If DAZN lands Sunday Ticket, that will help to guarantee its survival in the U.S.

There really aren't many college sports left for DAZN to buy. ESPN and ESPN+ have locked up nearly all of the major conferences and many mid-majors and minors, with FS1 mopping up the rest.

They are saying by March 25th 2020 it will be 19.99 a month. I pay 9.99 a month now because I have it already. I know about the college subs. I am just saying in general they need more content in the u.s. to justify raising the price in the u.s. to 19.99 a month.

$20 canelo fight is worth it for the 2 months he fights. But the other months when their isn't much going on. That's when I have the problem with it.

You missed my point: It's not $19.99 per month if you subscribe to the annual plan at $99.99. $100/12 = $8.33 per month, cheaper than the current subscription price of $9.99 per month.

Agree. I have similar misgivings. Last weekend's DAZN card was fun, but so far there's been far more quantity than quality with its cards.

At least if ESPN+ cards suck, you still have a TON of other excellent sports content for $5 per month. ESPN+ definitely is a keeper for me. DAZN needs to prove its long-term value to me in 2019.

Salute to Lamont Pearson as he retired last night..He was a straight warrior in and out of the ring..He had the sense to know that a boxer can only take so many punches in his career and got out at the right time..great role model and came from below the bottom..

Weren't both he and his younger brother abandoned at a very young age?
I thought I read that they were living in cars and shelters for quite a while.
Unreal what he's done with his life. I hope he has a happy, healthy retirement and enough money to never have to worry about anything again.

                                Random compiled thoughts:

                                - Hats off to Lamont Peterson on a great career. Always liked him. Talented fighter, hard worker, true warrior. I hope his retirement is permanent and that he enjoys his post-boxing life in good health.

                                - It sorta stuck with me when Peterson said in his post-fight interview (and I paraphrase here from memory): "I didn't see it coming....and that's been happening a lot lately, so maybe that's a sign.". Scary but also kudos to him for recognizing it and stepping away.

                                - Sergey Lipinets looked good, and maybe his move to 147 under the tutelage of Joe Goosen will turn out well. Such a tough weight class to make noise in, but honestly, if he gets a couple of high profile fights, even if he loses, that's much better than toiling at 140 or below (financially, anyway...).

                                - Terrence Crawford vs. Amir Khan is a PPV fight? Hate to sound like a broken record, but this is clearly the kind of fight that would normally be on HBO Championship Boxing (RIP) or Showtime Championship Boxing. It will be a somewhat entertaining beat-down in which Khan has an extraordinarily small percentage chance of winning (approaching zero), and worth a watch if it were on my cable channel but no way is this a PPV. Unless Mike Tyson is fighting Butterbean on the undercard, I wouldn't pay $10 to watch this fight, let alone $75.

                                - I love it when stuff like this happens (sorry for no embed but it didn't give me the option):
