Re: Floyd Mayweather v. Canelo Alvarez 9/14/2013 MGM Grand
Mayweather has stayed in the pocket in recent years. I don't know if it's a case of him being more defensive. Floyd did say he didn't like the game plan in that fight which was why he had his dad train him for Guerrero. I was surprised Cotto got to Mayweather since Cotto's physical abilities went down after the beating he got from Margarito. Canelo is going to have to keep the pressure up, but I don't know if he has the stamina to do that.Comment

I'll elevate that from possibility to somewhere between probability and certainty. Should be a CORKER.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment

I'm starting to wonder if after Canelo had trouble with Trout, that they figured they should cash in while they could.
If S-Mart hadn't gotten hurt, I would have loved to see Alvarez-Martinez at 154.
Anyway, I with Canelo the truth is somewhere in the middle. He's some parts media creation, and some parts legit skill (Saul did beat Trout, and Trout is no slouch).
His only chance is to catch Mayweather early, ala Mosley. I just don't see that happening.
And I doubt Alvarez's career is hurt much with a decision loss.
They can make the catchweight excuse (even though it was DLH's idea), and he can go up to 160 or stay at 154 and continue to do well against decent fighters.
BTW, I really hated Floyd a few years back, but lately I've grown to like him.
From his rant against how watered down boxing has become with too many belts, to some of the things he's said in the recent "All Access" episodes, I'm starting to like him.
He's actually come across humble at moments too. And nobody can take away from his work ethic or skills.
I really want to purchase this fight, but mainly for the Garcia fight. I think the main event is going to be quite predictable. I hope I'm wrong though. Boxing needs more classic championship fights.Comment

Originally posted by ddreamteamFloyd may the biggest mouth in boxing, but he can definitely walk the walk.. I hope Canelo is prepared to fight 12 rounds... It's the fight of his career...
Mayweather's slavish devotion to his spotless record through careful matchmaking has hurt boxing as much as it has helped. All of the great fighters higher than Mayweather on the all-time list -- Ali, Louis, Pep and Robinson, for example -- all lost.
The true measure of a champion is his reaction and recovery from defeat. Floyd's incredible talent, blended with painstaking matchmaking, may never let us see how he would handle a loss.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment

This and generosity toward his friends are Mayweather's only redeeming quality in my eyes. The guy is a misogynist, self-centered jerk who will be lost once the steady IV drip of the spotlight is turned off on him.
But Floyd is always fit. Nobody works harder in the gym. Nobody studies and perfects his craft better among the current generation of fighters.
I don't like Floyd. But I always hold up his work ethic as an example for my sons. "HARD WORK! DEDICATION!" is more than just a marketing tagline for this cat. It's his personal mantra.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment

He goes WAY out of his way to constantly flaunt his cash or highlight what money means to him.
How many T-shirts and hats did he wear where a $-sign was featured?
I bet deep down he's depressed knowing that most of the people in his life are only there because of his bank account. So he's trying to embrace it like he doesn't care.
And I wonder if that is the main motivating factor to his work ethic. He knows if he loses, his earning power will suffer, and then his self worth, which is tied to his cash, will decrease.
And I believe it was you who said that Mayweather treasures his perfect record only because he knows his Dad will put it in his face that he's no longer a perfect fighter, just like him. Completely agree.Comment

Nah, I never said that. His father's career record was 28-6-1. Floyd Jr. is 10 times the fighter his old man was.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment
