Re: Floyd Mayweather v. Canelo Alvarez 9/14/2013 MGM Grand

Yeah i'm definitely hyped for this fight. A little word of advice guys, go see the fight at your local movie theater. It's waaaay cheaper than PPV(like 10 bucks a ticket i think) and the atmosphere is awesome. I've been doing this for a while and i recommend it. A lot of people don't realize they show big fights at movie theaters.

Also, floyds saying he's going for the knockout.

Honestly, i could see him trying to make a statement, but it'll be difficult to do because of the weight disadvantage, still, a stoppage isn't impossible for him. I honestly thought he would of KO'd/stopped guerrero if he hadn't messed up his hand. And he could of got Cotto in the last round if he was more aggressive. Mayweather has a LOT more power than most people realize, nobody just walks through his shots. Mosley said he hits as hard as canelo.

When Floyd says he is going for the KO, that means the fight will go 12 rounds.

Actually he doesn't usually say he's going for KO's before fights. He always says if the KO comes he'll take it, but he's not going out of his way to get one. Which is why i'm interested by him saying he's going for a KO this time around. I can believe he's gonna try to make a statement in this fight, considering a lot of people said he would duck canelo.

And you could also take it to mean Floyd is a little nervous as the fight approaches.

Exactly. I doubt he's scared of canelo.

LOL, so Floyd being a little nervous is out of the question? Recent comments by Shane Mosley, who praises Mayweather (and rightly so), but says Alavarez has a great shot to win this fight. You don't think that might have set off Mayweather's comments?

Nah, i don't think it's impossible, i just don't get how him saying he's going for a knockout means he's nervous is all. And the reason i don't know about mosleys comments affecting mayweather is because he's had other fights where people/boxers/analyst have given his opponent a great shot to win against him. I mean he could be nervous, i just don't think he is.

The same reason you surmised that he was going for a KO to make a statement. We're speculating. The KO comment could have been nothing more than Mayweather pre fight bluster. Floyd will be more than happy to walk away with a decision.

Interesting comments by Mosley and interesting logistics for Canelo. Alvarez has been staying at Mosley's house for the last month and training in the ex champ's home gym.

                    Mosley says that:
                    1. Canelo is stronger, better body puncher
                    2. Canelo and Floyd have equal punching power and hand speed
                    3. Canelo's defense is underrated

I don't know what to make of Shane's analysis.

Fair, but i still find it interesting and think he's gonna try to make a statement. It could be pre fight hype, but like i said, floyd doesn't usually say he's going for KO's.

I would agree with mosley on 1 and 3. He actually showed some nice head movement against trout. On point 2, he and floyd may possibly have equal punching power, but i don't think Canelos hands are that fast. They're faster than people think though. I think Canelo has some deceptive quickness. He's not just a slow plodding fighter. I actually have always liked Canelo, one of my favorite up coming fighters.

The other day I found out that my local theater will be showing the fight. I definitely plan on going that route this time. It's $25 here, but I don't think that's bad at all. Should be a lot of fun seeing it on the big screen.

It took you two months to come up with that?

Let's go with your initial analysis complete with reason and reference:

Sorry for the flip answer. I just thought it was a response to this:

Floyd transformed himself into a body puncher and he will suddenly use this new found skill to body punch Canelo into oblivion? Canelo is the B-O-D-Y P-U-N-C-H-E-R. A successful body attack by Alvarez is his best bet to beat Floyd. So Mayweather is going to counter Alvarez's body attack with his own body attack?

I mean don't you have to set your feet to throw effective body punches? Since Floyd's head movement and shoulder roll are "directly ineffective" against a body punch, his best defense against Canelo's body attack will be moving away from it, not planting himself in body attack mode. Help me here. I'm no expert, like so many of you, I'm just a fan.

Floyd will haul in $41.5 million, Canelo not too shabby at over $10 million.
