      Wow @ joe Frazier

I love the old time fighters, but i think nostalgia plays a huge role in their placement.

I don't think so. Most of the best athletes are not choosing boxing anymore. Back in the old days boxing was about the only game in town for minorities.
I think the list of GOAT is pretty accurate.

^I dunno, what makes the best athletes? I mean i've seen football players do horrible in boxing. I get what you mean tho. But nowadays i'd say because we know waaay more about effective training methods and ways to take care of the body, it's possible that some of todays boxers are much more conditioned and athletic than those of the past.

I've heard some experts say that basketball players are most likely the best suited athletes for boxing.

I don't even see Rocky Marciano listed as a second tier great. I know he is considered one of the greats but for my money the guy was just too small and not quick enough to fight most of the better fighters in the heavyweight division who have come along the past 50 years.

Frazier isn't in my top 10 let alone top 5.

i admit that frazier may be a personal bias of mine. i think roberto duran is a name that's easier to accept in his place, i am just partial to frazier.

His claim to fame is one victory over Ali and he lost to other names in his era....

He didn't fight Ken Norton, Ernie Shavers, Ronnie Lyle etc.

Same here, and Roy Jones is a strong case for that argument.

                            That's actually not that unfounded.
I hear you, but it's hard for me to understand and side with degenerate gamblers. lol

Besides, even if Pac was at 100%, the wife-beater is probably winning anyway. Those lowlifes should know that.

completely disagree. First of all, Rocky would be at MOST a cruiserweight today. IN his prime he fought a lot in the 180s lbs range. I'm sure if he tried he could have fought at light heavyweight, but he wouldn't go near the heavy division in the modern era, which means it's ridiculous to put him (for arguments sake) in the ring with Lennox Lewis or any of those big guys.

Further more, I think his achievement is pretty special given that even at 184lbs for example it's still a weight were guys can drop you with one shot. He had to get up off the canvas vs joe louis and win (yes louis was older) but it shows he had all the attributes you look for in a big time boxer. Chin, Punching power, stamina, heart etc.

One of my favs of all time is Floyd Patterson with that all-time great left hook.

anyway, quite the tangent on this thread but it's fun. anyone who missed that interview a few pages back of floyd mayweather getting a shave etc... that was a great interview - he basically says his style - stay at range and hold on the inside and give multiple angles etc and even said it's not how you win, it's that you win period (in his eyes) and that he will always use everything at his disposal to win and I can understand that - but again, I don't have to appreciate it.

also Skip Bayless is an idiot.

He could not have fought effectively (if at all) at 175. He would have been the best cruiser-weight of all time but guys like Foreman would have killed him.
