I think it is fair to say that this fight left a sour taste in the mouths of many. For people that are boxing fans it changes nothing, but it does for the people who watched it because they expected something else.
That does not surprise me at all, but what does surprise me is how Manny comes out of this. He has lost some of his shine. Some outlets, perhaps those that do not typically give much coverage to the sport, billed this almost as good vs evil. A hero vs a villain.
But then the hero lost; Manny let us down and we are disappointed in him. But more than that, this news of his shoulder tarnishes him as well. Sure you got his actual fans saying what heart and warrior spirit he has, but then many people see it as a money grab. It wasn't about heart, it was about collecting a paycheck when he knew he could not put up a fight worthy of the cost/hype.
I am not necessarily saying that is the case, I don't know the mind of Manny, but that does seem to be the perception.
So yes, this fight made record revenue and some can point to it to refute the notion that boxing is dying, but then again, it could have done major harm to the sport as far as attracting actual fans.
We will have to wait and see what the true effect this fight has on the sport.
Edit: Just saw that a fan has filed a class action lawsuit lol. I'll leave it up to you to determine what this says about our society
