So is 1/4 guard same position as 3/4 mount?

      Yeah probably.

Naming in MMA/BJJ is all over the map.

We could all be talking about something different until we find a picture.

I'm think of the position DJ likes to get armbar from. I think Reis was like that, maybe Horiguchi as well.

We call that knee on belly if it's the one I think you're talking about.

You can't get an armbar from good quarter guard because you can't spin, although you can pass in like half a second then spin to spiderweb (armbar position)

I assume we're never going to get the ridiculously named 10th planet stuff like electric chair sweeps and the truck and stoner control and the vaporiser?

                  Maybe some day.

It would help if they get used in the UFC.

Like in this video or are you talking about a different kind of quarter guard?

No, we call that knee shield I think.

Like I said, naming in BJJ is all over the place depending on the gym.

That's knee shield, quarter guard is basically just ankle control. Like, full guard is both knees both ankles, 3/4 guard is 1 knee both ankles, half guard is 1 knee 1 ankle and quarter guard is 1 ankle.

Yeah and quarter guard is one of the really tricky ones. Has different meanings in Machado, 10th planet and no gi jiu jitsu. I think I get what you are saying, like a half escaped mount in the opposite way of that video where you are more than half in instead of more than half out from the bottom.

Yeah, would give the option of a really fast transition out of sub mount that still left you in big danger.

Like a two phase escape to half guard.

And you could have a reversal on any pass to mount that hooked the ankle and went to quarter guard instead.

Would add a lot to balance, but doesn't sound as exciting as seated cage which everyone seems to want.

lol People don't know what they want. Seated cage to me is just presentation this quarter guard would be good for gameplay. Any additions to positioning and the flow of the ground game would be awesome.

The seated cage positions are a must have tbh...that adds some needed realism with the cage grappling. But that quarter guard needs to make it's way in one way or the other. It would add some of needed balance in sub mount.
