Re: Game is being tuned to the point of only the elite being able to play.
Regardless Nogueira was 80% blind in his left eye and it's the reason he wasn't allowed to fight in the US anymore (that fight was in Dubai). He couldn't get clearance from doctors after the Couture fight in Portland, OR so he never fought on a US card again.
There's so many factors. At the end of the day - Nogueira wasn't in his prime past the Tim Slyvia fight at UFC 81. The head kick from Heath Herring at UFC 73 (his UFC debut) really changed him as a fighter as did the multitude of surgeries and injuries.
Regardless it cannot be denied that during his prime run he was one of the best to ever do it.Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira - UFC Hall of FameComment

Even in that fight it took 3-4 of those to finish him. Most take one. . .

Re: Game is being tuned to the point of only the elite being able to play.
- A great fight against Couture.
- A solid win over Sylvia
- An average fight against Herring.
- 2 great finishes over average HWs like Herman and Schaub.
AND
- Him getting KO'd 3 times by Mir, Cain and Nelson.
- Beat by Struve.
- Subbed by Werdum and Mir.
During his UFC time, he lost to every elite HW he fought (Unless you consider a mid 40s Couture elite) and a couple who werent elite. All of the elite fighters finished him.
I'm not ****ting on Nog but when people demand that he should be rated as an elite fighter based on the whole of his career, I dont agree. He looked great in Pride. He looked average in the UFC. That equals out to good and I think he's good in the game.Comment

Nah. Lets say you started watching him after Pride, here is what you saw:
- A great fight against Couture.
- A solid win over Sylvia
- An average fight against Herring.
- 2 great finishes over average HWs like Herman and Schaub.
AND
- Him getting KO'd 3 times by Mir, Cain and Nelson.

Struve, Werdum and Nelson losses were all 2013 and later though. So if you look at 07’ through 2012
It looks like this:
- A great fight against Couture.
- A solid win over Sylvia
- An average fight against Herring.
- 2 great finishes over average HWs like Herman and Schaub.
AND
- Him getting KO'd 2 times by Mir and Cain.
- Subbed by Mir.
And really, does Cain even count? He’s one of the greatest EVER.

Right, I just mean that it shouldn’t count as a big knock against his stats.

We are taking his career as a whole. If I’m gonna give him credit for subbing people back in the pride days who probably wouldn’t be minor league fighters today...I should be able to knock him for losing to Struve and Nelson.

Re: Game is being tuned to the point of only the elite being able to play.
Right, just not as a big knock against his stats as is currently the case in the game. His UFC run from 07’ through 2012 should be the basis for his stats.
The stats are close don’t get me wrong, but we need to add 2 or 3 for his chin and 2 for sub defense.
