Re: EA Sports UFC 3 Patch 1.13 Available Now - Patch Notes Here
There's also cases were 80 just isn't low enough for certain ratings. 80 is still a good rating to have in a 1-100 scale. There are fighters that should definitely have well below an 80 with a stat like switch stance. Sure, there's a difference between having an 80 to having a 92, but some fighters should be truly incapable of having much success when switching stances, and you can't replicate that when the lowest rating is 80 yet we're using a 1-100 scale. So many players switch stances with pure lefties and can still have great success since 80 is as low as the ratings go in this 100 pt scale.
I couldn't imagine playing a NBA2K and Dwight Howard having a 80 in 3 point shooting because that's the lowest they'd go while still utilizing a 1-100 scale. He may not sink em like Curry would with a high 90s 3pt rating, but 80 still isn't bad. 80-100 makes everyone good to great but in reality, some fighters are simply below average or poor in certain aspects of the sport and an 80 out of 100 does not reflect below average skill. Everyone feels a little too good in places they shouldn't, hence part of the reason why nearly everyone fights the same way online.

You can see the true range of the ratings system in UT. During your first fight, many of your ratings from the 50-70 range. In that first fight, you will see how slow and weak your fighter is if his ratings are in that range. With the exception of CM Punk, there really arent a lot of current UFC fighters who are that slow or weak or weak chinned. Now if you are arguing that some of the UFC fighters should feel like UT fighters in certain categories, I think the ranked crowd would have an issue with that.
The 2K example is a tough comparison because these are two different sports. EA could decide to split the UFC ratings into tens/hundreds of minor categories like 2k does but I (and I think the devs) see that as unnecessary. One, the amount of work it would take is would be alot and require more resources for something (broader differences in fighters) that non stat changes would likely address better. Two, Basketball ratings are easier to do honestly. You can rely mostly on stats to determine how much better Steph Curry is than Dwight Howard at midrange shots from below the free throw line. You can use stats for certain categories MMA too but alot of it is perception. Chin, toughness, heart, endurance, stamina arent really stat driven categories. You have to watch the fights and then estimate what stat they should receive.Comment

If there was a power rating for every weight class wouldn’t it just scale based on class?

i wonder how the realism guys are going to react to Max Holloway throwing 430 strikes in 4 rounds and still looking like he could keep going at that pace for another 4. BTW what an awesome fight!Comment

Re: EA Sports UFC 3 Patch 1.13 Available Now - Patch Notes Here
Well in defense of Holloway he is a whole different animal. He’s a beast on a conditioning level above arguably most everyone else on the roster. With that said not everyone can perform like he does. Having guys like him and Ferguson able to perform like that while having other fighters be unable to would add to the realism of the game and make him feel more unique like himself. Side note: Ortega is a savage for pushing the fight to Holloway even while being lit upComment

Additionally, Max threw 507 (not 430) and landed 307 of those strikes. THAT'S A 60% CONNECT RATE. In this game, people have almost no incentive to worry about blocked strikes as there is very little stamina penalty. It is not uncommon for me to fight people that land under 30% (because I am blocking and evading).
If Max would have only landed 152 strikes (30% of 507)... he probably would not have been able to finish that fight.
I am sick and tired of fighting Micheal Bisping at MW and defending around 400 punches in a five round fight.Comment

I feel that the spear is nearly perfect.
I've tried to get it in somewhat 'cheap' situations, and failed.
But each time I tried to use it in a realistic scenario, it worked perfectly.
A guy throws a 6 strike combo; missing most of them? ---- SPEAR
I catch a guy with a solid counter and rock him; he backs up and hugs R2 ---- SPEAR
I catch a guy with a solid counter and rock him; he pre-denies spear ---- 4 PIECE COMBO KO
If anything, it should be MORE effective for high-level wrestlers vs. low-level TDD.
Meaning instead of a 50% stamina differential for a SPEAR ---- if you have TD of 95 and they had TDD of 85, maybe it's only a 25% differential
or vice versa....you have a TD of 85 they have TDD of 95 ---- maybe a 66% stamina diff. is required
etc.
But overall, LOVING the SPEAR Just call me Goldberg!!!
Driving takedown seems fun tooPSN: Boiler569

* Had 60% connect rate; savage
* Took little damage
* Is a 145er, perhaps you could say 155er; but certainly now MW, LHW, or HW!
* Should be considered 95+ Striking Stamina & 95+ Endurance; def. not your average fighter haha
Personally I think the current stamina system in UFC 3 is 'pretty good' --- definitely does NOT need to go back to more strikes per round based on Max's performancePSN: Boiler569

I want greater fighter variation. For example someone referenced the recent Max Holloway fight. I want that to be possible, but only possibly for the fighters that truly should be able to pull that off.
Also, decisions (and I'm an offline player, so this might be different online) should come at a much higher clip for lower weight classes. Statistically this is backs up.
Everyone talking about high strike rates and eating shots, those should basically be the norm at sub 155 weight classes. There aren't a lot of one hitter quitters down there, there are very few knockout artists down there.
But I also think UFC 4 will be in a better place no matter what because we are seeing an evolution to a more well rounded game. When you have a truly balanced game between grappling and striking the pace slows down IMO.
As there are more grapple counters to implement against striking, it forces primarily striking based fighters to slow down and wait. The AI changes in the last patch are cool too because now they adapt their game in fight to what is and isn't working a little more.
The more you have to think in a fight the less people will throw. The inaction in real fighting is fighters reading and anticipating. You'll see more for that in this game as the avenues of fighting styles are fleshed out more and given life.

Also almost every fighter in the game is capable of knocking people out, and I used to think I wanted that in the game because I believed one clean shot should knock anyone out.
I've changed my mind...
There are some fighters in real life who simply won't knock you out. Bisping and Dominick Cruz are a couple of examples. They should almost only be able to due it at random intervals.
But...they also have high stamina and should almost never get tired relative to their peers. So while when olaying against them you never truly have to worry about them ending you with one shot, you would have to worry about your stamina getting low, leaving you vulnerable to get out strike due to pace, out grappled due to tiredness and maybe even finished with strikes due to stamina.
Which is where TKO's should come in. Not knockouts. But TKO's.
So there is room for improvement and that we are talking about this nuanced an issue is a testament to how the game has come that we are at this point.

Thats not true. 80 is below average in this game. Its is hard as hell to compete with an 80 chin or stamina or power or speed in this game. Shoot, I've seen people complain about people like Rashad Evans being "unusable" simply because he has an 85 chin.

As it is now, we are all fighting like Holloway vs Ortega in stand up. Aside from that, it's just about knowing the common vulnerability frames. Everyone is a counter strike specialist, a clinch striking specialist, and volume striker. I don't see how using the 1-100 scale and adding more stats hurts the game or any game.
I have no issues with the specified stats & ratings in 2k, it adds to the individuality of each player to feel and play differently and adds realism. The more ratings the better, the only issue is it's just more time consuming to create a player. But other than that, bring on as many ratings as they can and the full 1-100 system.

Re: EA Sports UFC 3 Patch 1.13 Available Now - Patch Notes Here
So every fighter type should have a counter IMO.
Even fighters with power should only have it in certain ways.
Francis Ngannou is a knockout artist. So is Mark Hunt. If you want some lower weight examples so was prime Johny Hendricks, Cody Garbrandt still is, and so on and so forth.
But here is the thing about power in fights...it isn't an infinite renewable resource in a fight like stamina and endurance are.
After a round, fighters simply don't retain the same kind of one shot kill power they have early on. As they get tired some cease to have it at all.
Most true knockouts happen early in fights.
Conversely, most shots that land don't hurt people the way strikes hurt people in this game. If a fighter like Bisping and Diaz finish a fight with strikes it's usually an accumulation. But they should be able to finish a fight by draining stamina and eventually just overwhelming their opponent. You don't see that too often in this game.
Right now it's more like those guys simply have to rock and stun guys more often than the heavy hitters who might get the knockout after only a rock or two. Thats the differentiation now, but what I'm talking about above is what I'd like to see it evolve.
