It's insane that in 2020 a AAA video game company would gain exclusive rights to making a Sports game, yet they are incapable of adding some of the most basic feutures of the sport, when we are reaching at a point, where some other games are basically online real-time semi-simulations.

At this point, we should be pointing out that EA doesn't have the expertise to implement those basic functions of an MMA Sports Game.

EA with this series and Undisputed 3's existance, proves that all the money in the world, with the biggest bohemoth backing your Sports Game, doesn't translate to getting the job done.
I read that they don't have high expectations for the UFC. Maybe that's why the development budget is not so big. And it is possible that the engine itself is very expensive

Now, I'm not saying they dont read your posts here or on Reddit or Youtube. They 100% do. I'm saying that whether this community likes or dislikes a decision they make doesnt hold as much weight as people here think it does.

That makes sense, but why aren’t the knockouts better then? There is literally nothing that casual MMA fans like more than KO’s. It’s the main reason they watch MMA.

Do casuals have a problem with it?

I also wouldn't call referee stoppages "one of the basics of MMA" in terms of gameplay.
          ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No idea. Maybe casual fans are happy with them. Maybe they dont care about things like ref interactions. I honestly have no clue.

Well, lets just pray that a developer who has a true passion for MMA picks up the rights for the next UFC game. MMA games are very niche so they need all the support they can get. If this game isnt catered to the real fans, then how do they expect to sell copies? Casuals arent going to support this game.......they may buy it, play it for a few months and put it back on the shelf or sell it and move on to the next game. The real MMA fans are the ones still playing Undisputed 3 almost a decade later on an outdated console. Those are the guys you wanna cater to because they will buy your product, they will support it, they will spread the news of the game to their buddies, they're the ones who will buy the DLC if they enjoy the game. Casuals come and go, if that's who they have in mind for their product then they must be ok with poor sales.

Save your prayers. I'm pretty confident that EA is going to renew the license. The game is successful from a sales perspective and from what I've heard, the license isnt that expensive when comparing it to other sports league licenses.

Rightly or wrongly there is a flaw in your logic. If casuals buy the game then EA have achieved their goal - they got the money for the purchase, it doesn't matter to them whether the game is fired up daily or sits on the shelf gathering dust once it has been paid for. Arguably, they don't need to cater to the hardcore as much as they will more than likely buy the game anyway.
I'm not saying I agree with this approach but I think it is what brings in the most money for a niche sports game for them.

I agree with catering more to hardcores but I disagree with having another pick up the licence. Who else could pick it up 2k, Yukes? They would have to start over and the game wont be deep. We'd likely have to wait longer for things like cage seated. EA is the biggest out of the three and would likely have the biggest budget.

I doubt Yuke's would have to start over, if they still have an Undisputed 3 build around, or the source code. They could and should use that as a base and finally get to make Undisputed 4.

Could be true. Would be awesome but I would think they would need a new engine for the next gen.

True, though maybe they could port their mechanics and code over to their WWE engine? That was built for current-gen and legacy stuff carried over I believe, especially animation wise. I would assume it has some scalability for next-gen.

Does Yukes own that source code?

Does EA? They got the license but I doubt they have the source code, maybe THQ had the source code and they gave it to EA but Yuke's have their own "copy". Does a license transfer automatically give the source code to the other party too? Do Kylotonn have the source code for Test Drive Unlimited 1 and 2 after the publisher bought the license? Shame we can't get answers.

                                EA doesnt.

Thats why I think it would technically be property of the UFC but I could be wrong.
