Anyone watching WSOF? That Steve Carl submission was pretty nice. Hoping this Burkman/Fitch fight ends up being decent.

LOL. I guess we wont hear people complaining about how Fitch should still be in the UFC anymore. He's now last 3 of his last 4.

The other best thing on the card was a leg kick TKO by Justin Gaethje. He leg kicked dude so much he couldn't even stand in the 3rd and verbally quit. So for all of those who keep saying leg kicks TKOs don't happen, there you go it happened tonight.

                    Re: OS MMA Random Thread

Nick Diaz's WAR MMA promotion will hold its first card this Saturday. The event will be available to stream for free at http://nickdiazpromotions.com.

I'm gonna tune in just because I want to see how well it's put together. It's hard for me to picture Nick being the frontman of an organization, but this seems to be pretty legit from what I've gathered so far. He obviously has some other people helping him put this together. The website looks clean, a weigh in date is set, fights are in place, and tickets are on sale through ticketmaster now. I read a couple of weeks ago that Nick still had to get his promoter's license, but I assume that's been taken care of with the event a few days away.

The vision seems to be that he wants to take it back to the Pride days with the rule set. This should be an interesting weekend.

In an interview with Sherdog's Beatdown Radio, Diaz's attorney Jonathan Tweedale discussed intended rules changes that the promotion is working towards.

"In the first event, what Nick's trying to do is introduce some rule changes -- relative to the rules that many of the fans may be familiar with already -- to try to push the action a little more towards the sport as Nick envisions it.

"That, first of all, is in a ring versus a cage, not simply because of the dehumanizing element that some fighters have talked about, fighting in a cage, but combat sports have always happened in a ring whether we're talking boxing, kickboxing. When did we use a cage? It's only a subset of pro wrestling that uses a cage. Removing the cage, moving to the ring changes things in terms of takedowns, changes things in terms of how you can get up. That's the first change.

"Removing elbows on the ground is a big deal too because that is going to require fighters, if you're on top, you can't just be rubbing your elbows into the guy's face on bottom... You're going to have to create space, try to punch down, and that space is exactly the space the guy on bottom needs to either try to get up or work his submission game. Alternatively, the guy on top is going to need to advance his position. We're going to expect some more action and more fighting.

"Those are two shifts aimed at moving the fights more towards the sort of Japanese MMA that better represents the kind of fighting that Nick wants to see in MMA."

Other rules changes Diaz hopes to implement include use of the 'Yellow Card" and kick or knees on the ground. The yellow card is a means by which judges can spur the action - in the case of timidity or stalling, a yellow card warning is issued. A percentage of the purse is deducted after the second yellow card warning. Diaz's group is also seeking for soccer kicks and knees on the ground, but acknowledges that that is sometimes off in the future, as it requires approval by the athletic commission.

Renato "Babalu" Sobral retired......good. He never peaked and pretty much stayed a below average fighter his entire career. Other then Chael Sonnen, Shogun and Jeremy Horn, all his victories was against cans.

                        And King MO KO'ed Seth.

I never liked Babalu so I won't miss him fighting anymore. He's been doing this thing for a long time though, this comes as no surprise.

Anderson Silva called BJ Penn the best Mixed Martial Artists of all time. To an extent I agree with this. In his prime BJ Penn was unstoppable. He even competed at heavyweight and light heavyweight. He beat some of the best in the business in his prime when others were in their prime.

If BJ Penn took MMA serious 100% of the time, he would have been unstoppable. His problem is, he never took MMA serious and simply won off of natural talent. So to have the record he has without even really training or trying, is impressive.

He held his own against Machida, beat Renzo and Rodrigo Gracie. To do that at the heavyweight and light heavyweight weight classes when you are a natural welterweight is impressive.

I can't, personally, call him the best MMA of all time... just because he failed to live up to his massive talent.

I can easily say he's probably the most talented person I've ever witnessed but I'm more disappointed in his career thinking, "Man, dude should have absolutely DOMINATED."

There's a list of people with better careers just because they haven't coasted off their natural talent. It's basically just an argument of semantics from me though.
