They're reporting that Kimbo Slice has signed with Bellator. He'll probably get smoked by any halfway decent fighter right now, but I'm a sucker for a Kimbo fight.Comment

I love what Coker is doing for Bellator. He isnt even trying to compete with the UFC. He's just putting on good fights once a month and signing people that fans enjoy watching fight.Comment

Yes, but is Kimbo even a draw anymore? The appeal when he first got into MMA was he was this YouTube sensation that was beating up dudes in backyard fights. We've all seen him in the Octagon/Cage against professionals and that really didn't amount to much.Currently Playing:

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
Bellator had Kimbo on just like the Rampage interview the UFC did. He has been boxing and is 7-0, but probably a bunch of nobodies. As long as they just give him strikers he can box with them. It's not like the HW division is deep.

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
Maybe I'm overestimating the fan base that he has, but I feel like that has to count for something. It's not on Nick's level, but he has a ton of people who like to see him fight. He's been in the UFC forever and he's always on the main card. 30/30 even seems a bit low to me.
I think the UFC needs to pay their fighters more money. I produce boxing for TV and know what a bunch of them get paid and I'm surprised that the UFC is still paying its bottom-level fighters 3 and 4k for a fight. In my events, guys that are like 1-0 or 2-1 etc... they get as low as $1200 but once there are have a few fights it's usually more like 3-4k and as high as maybe 25k, plus the boxers are all given the opportunity to boost their purse with ticket sales if they want to promote themselves.
The big difference is the promotion involved doesn't make huge profits, or have the exposure like the ufc. On top of that, someone fighting in the UFC is NOT making their debut ever - they are already established MMA fighters. IF I were to amplify their exposure and profits to the same level. Diaz in this particular example would probably pull 40k especially if he were fighting someone like Cerrone for example.
I don't get why the UFC won't pay more, we are talking thousands, not millions - it's not even worth the bad PR. How do you access fight purses? What did Benson and Cerrone make on the weekend?Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Yeah, I always thought rehab was just for press. I dont know many coke addicts who can do coke on December 8 and stop doing it for a month leading up to a fight. He's probably a casual coke user and has the bad luck that NSAC accidentally tested for it out-of-competition.
Coke use in MMA isnt as rare as people think. I have good friends of mind who witnessed Chuck Liddell do all sorts of drugs back in his heyday.Spoilerhttp://giant.gfycat.com/UnacceptableAffectionateKodiakbear.gifComment
