As always the WEC put on a great show. That Bowles/Torres fight in August will be yet another great one.

Thoughts on the night:

I really hated to see Jens go out like that. I think the dude could still fight if he could get past this losing streak mentally but you could tell that he's at the breaking point. I'm hoping he takes some time to think after the loss and get his head right. He's definitely looked bad in his last three fights though. Props to Grispi too.

Cerrone put on another great show like I thought he would. That guy is great on the ground and on his feet. Just an exciting fighter to watch. I hope he gets his rematch with Varner.

That Banuelos and Jourgensen fight was awesome. How can you not like those 2 guys?

Where the hell did Dikun come up with the cajones to throw that flying triangle? Very cool.

Jose Aldo! I'm so glad he laid Swanson out like that. I can't stand Cub. At least Cub can stand tall with the knowledge that he lasted longer in this fight than he did on prom night.

Brown/Faber 2 lived up to the hype in the first round and was overall a great fight but I just wish Faber could have had his full arsenal. That last 4 rounds were still exciting but imagine if Faber hadn't broken his hand. His hand looked straight out of a cartoon when they took that icepack off. He's got some serious heart and I hope he climbs back up the ranks. Brown is good but I don't think he would would have won with a 2-handed Urijah. He's definitely got his hands full with Aldo.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't be surprised if Swanson had a broken orbital bone around his eye... dude looked wrecked and his eye had an oddly shaped black and blue mark forming... and he was bleeding from the eye socket.

Quality night, though it sucked Faber broke his hand...

Swanson's eye was wicked. The cut above it was brutal, and he had a cut right below the bottom eyelid too, just jacked up!

Honestly I came away more impressed with Faber than I did Brown tonight. Dude had to resort to standing elbows and open handed strikes and was still holding his own. Plus its got to be pretty hard to grapple when your hand is as jacked as Urijah's. Brown looked like a sloth tonight.

Also about 5 seconds before Aldo/Swanson started I said "Aldo by flying knee". My brother and his buddy thought I looked up the result online because we started watching on a 10 minute delay and I was at my brothers computer. But by then we'd already caught up to real time. So I'm just that good.

It was a Faber love fest last night. Even when Brown socked him the announcers were like "uh oh, Faber got hit"
it was as if it didn't matter who he was fighting. It was almost enough to make me sick. This hand stuff too...I heard enough of it from the announcers. he's the one who broke it, was holding it to the camera and posting his x-rays on his website. All Brown did was win the fight.
Faber also complained about his other hand being hurt.
Should Brown just let him hit him on the chin? Brown's hands seem to be fine...your hands shouldn't break like that in a fight - He lost fair and square.

If you punch somebody in the head full power your hand would break too unless you have an adamantium skeleton.

I have to disagree. I think he's physically done. Since the first Faber fight, he's just looked terrible; I mean even if you're mentally drained, your skill alone should be able to get you past 1:34 in at least 1 of 3 fights. I think the guy's time has just past him by; he needs to retire.

First WEC event I watched live after watching a lot of replayed action over the past month or two. I have to say I'm impressed and won't miss one from here on... Kind of a crazy night with all the quick finishes, I missed two or three of them flipping channels during what I thought would be commercial time. Luckily, Aldo/Swanson was not one of them -- can't wait to see him get a shot at Brown if it happens...

Jorgensen/Banuelos was a great fight, but I was again done in by my channel flipping (my wife was in the room and hates MMA to begin with) and missed the decision. I thought Jorgensen would take it in a close decision and could see how it could be scored a draw, but if Banuelos won, that seems a tad unfair.

Brown/Faber made for good drama, but the fight obviously suffered after Faber broke his hand. I imagine we'll see a third matchup if Brown holds the belt long enough. I'm not a Faber fan due to his personality (no doubting his talent) and was disappointed with how he handled himself after the fight. Having his team cut off his tape so he could parade his mangled hand around during the decision, looking at while it was announced, even tapping his arm while they raised Brown's hand. I realize that the injury did affect the outcome and that Faber was getting the better of the action to that point, but I thought his actions afterwards left something to be desired.

Oh and I don't want to forget about Lil' Evil. It's a shame to see a great reach the end of the road, but the results indicate he's there. I remember him from back when I used to watch UFC years ago and he seems like a good guy, so I'll be pulling for him if he tries to continue...

He's the only high profile guy I've seen break his hand like that...maybe he should look at his technique or something.
The bottom line is it's his fault, not some unfortunate event that he had no part in.

Brown won and deserved to win. Jorgensen deserved to win too, but oh well.

The bottom line is it's his fault, not some unfortunate event that he had no part in.

I think the problem was that the punch landed on the top of Brown's head, which is the hardest part of the skull (hence soccer players being able to head the ball constantly with it and why a headbutt can be effective). Breaks like this can also be attributed to the fist not being clenched tightly, which puts extra pressure on the metacarpals. So part of it is bad luck (Brown ducking in as the punch came), but if his fist was loose, part of the blame could be on Faber.

that's what I'm getting at. lol for some reason I'm having a really hard time expressing what I'm thinking today.

I think some of the blame should be put on Faber - the parading around the hand as another poster pointed out was just awful. Nice use of anatomical diction I took a bunch of archaeology courses in university and had to know that stuff like the back of my ....erm...metacarpals. Looking at his style, it really looks like he doesn't always clench his fists tightly. So I'm just really erked at the whole situation because his actions (website posting, pointing at the hand) are not so subtly suggesting that he was somehow victimized and that he would have won had it not happened. I just wanted him to congratulate his opponent and move on - Brown won, and it was his night so just show some respect instead of making it all about your broken hand buddy!

Really? that must have been your what 2nd ever time watching MMA? With those small gloves broken hands happen all the time. Joe Riggs broke both of his hands the night before on the strikeforce card. Forrest Griffin broke his hand in his loss to Evans. Karo Parisyan broke his against Ryo Chonan. In training I know Houston Alexander and Thales Leties both had to withdraw from fights over broken hands.

Damn Faber is getting the Rashad treatment. He's another respectful dude who gets a bad rap. He didnt' take anything away from Brown or say that he would've defintiely won, only that it affected his performance. Having a broken hand in a fight tends to do that.
