UFC 102: Couture vs Nogueira

I thought there was a thread for this but a search didnt bring one up and going page by page didnt either so if someone comes across the old one then dont hesitate to merge them. UFC 102 was finally officially confirmed today for Portland, although the card seems rather weak if you ask me. Tickets go on sale Saturday, June 20th for everyone and Thursday, June 18th for club members. The card, as of right now, looks like the following....

-Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (31-5-1; #5 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Randy Couture (16-9; #6 Heavyweight in the World)
-Jake Rosholt (5-1) vs. Chris Leben (18-7)
-Junior dos Santos (8-1) vs. Justin McCully (9-4)
-James Irvin (14-5) vs. Wilson Gouveia (12-6)
-Gabe Gonzaga (10-4) vs. Chris Tuchscherer (17-1)

Obviously they will be adding fights I would assume but its not the most appealing card on paper atleast. I may go anyways but as of right now Im completely on the fence as Im not a Couture fan at all and hes the only real draw on this card, besdes Nog of course.

Sherdog's also got Marquardt vs. Maia and Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva for that card.

With those fights added, I think the card is pretty good. Not spectacular, but I'm certainly interested.

Def. a weakish card. I heard a rumor that Couture was gonna step down to 205 guess that was un-true.

Sherdog's also got Marquardt vs. Maia and Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva for that card.

With those fights added, I think the card is pretty good. Not spectacular, but I'm certainly interested.

Maia vs. Marquadt will be good. That bumps up the card a bit to me.

Thats a pretty damned good top 4 fights right there and Leben is worthy of the 5th spot though I wish they'd have given him a more interesting match up.
Plus Gouveia and Dos Santos are also guys I really like to watch fight. Gonzaga is pretty damned good to be on an undercard too.

Now that I see the rounded out card this looks a lot better.

- I don't really like Randy Couture so hopefully Nog can win the fight.

- Jardine vs. Thiago Silva makes a lot of sense right now. I hope Silva rebounds after the Machida L.

- Don't let him take you to the ground Nate!!!

- I don't know if the Terminator thing Hammil does is gonna work this fight. Vera has some great reach and I can see him just picking him apart. This matchup really intrigues me.

- Wilson is a really tough fight for Irvin to take in a return match. I don't see it ending well for him, but the Sandman has a way of being in memorable fights one way or another.

- The Dos Santos fan club is accepting new members.

Man, people like this Dos Santos guy. I've never seen him fight - but I do remember his name from when I was building that now defunct database.

I was an instant fan after he KO'd Werdum. Then he followed it up by destroying Struve. He has a ton of potential and he is fun to watch.
