Re: GSP v. Hardy - UFC 111 in Jersey
11/11 on takedowns.
26/34 on passes.
6 submissions attempted.
201 strikes thrown.
Those are insane numbers. It's crazy that GSP gets the flak he does for not finishing his last couple fights. Granted, that flak is only really from a vocal minority of internet fans, but still. The guy's probably the best fighter in the world right now, he's on a run in the UFC that may never be equaled, and all some people can talk about is how a couple of the best fighters in the world managed to survive against him. But I suppose haters are gonna hate, regardless.Comment

Re: GSP v. Hardy - UFC 111 in Jersey
both are so skilled in all areas that itd be a great fight. GSP can stand and strike and we know Silva can as well. GSP studies his opponents well and if it goes to the ground itd be interesting. Everyone seems to think Silva would easily win but GSP is the most worthy opponent for Silva and can beat him no doubt. That fight is a 50-50 fight basically because both guys are so good.Comment

I found GSP's bout to be very boring. And I think the reason for that is all on me. I just don't find anything entertaining about the wrestling component of MMA.
I can appreciate GSP's skills for dominating on the floor and his takedown acumen, but I wasn't at all entertained by it.
Again, this is probably due to my own ignorance. A friend of mine who's really into MMA loved it and kept raving about how good he was. I understand that. But for me, it felt like a wasted $60 on my part.Comment

I'm gonna chime in here as someone who's new to the sport and trying to get into it.

I was just like when I first watched mma. This isn't boxing so once you realize that wrestling is just a path to someone finishing the fight, u will enjoy the sport much more.Comment

there is good wrestling and bad wrestlng. Th Fitch fight was an example of bad wrestling. Just a guy taking down his opponent not looking to advance his position or submt someone. The Gsp fight was an example of a guy looking for submissions and almost finishing the fight with two of them. That's good wrestling.

GSP is the definition of a mixed martial artist. Most guys have an area they excel at, and then are just good enough in all other areas.
GSP excels in all areas of MMA. His seamless transition from from striking, to wrestling, to BJJ is extremely underrated..::..::::::::.:.:.:.:....:::.:.::::..:.:::....:::: ...:..::."When you're an assassin, you don't have a conscience"-Gilbert ArenasComment

I'm interested in the Rampage-Evans card still. Not sure I'll pay for it though. I might have to find a bar or someone else willing to front the cash for it.
BTW, one of the preliminary fights (they showed after the main fight was over) was highly entertaining. I don't know the fighters names but it featured a tall, lanky white fighter vs a short, well-built black fighter.
I couldn't believe the white dude was able to take some serious punishment and come back to win a UD.
My friends and I kept laughing everytime they showed the black fighter and then switch to the white guy. The black fighter looked like a bodybuilder and the white guy looked like Napolean Dynamite.
But it was a very entertaining fight.
P.S. You're right. The fitch bout was terrible. I'm glad the ref made them stand as often as he did.Comment

The thing that drives me nuts is when people criticize GSP for not finishing a couple of the best welterweights in the world. If someone's not entertained, fine. But there's people talking (not necessarily here) like GSP just smothers his opponents and does just enough to not lose. That's bull****.Comment

Re: GSP v. Hardy - UFC 111 in Jersey
Major props to GSP..he easily could have snapped Hardy in half a few times but held back...I respect that. That said, Hardy needs to tap...as most fighters would not have been as sporting as GSP. You prove nothing in MMA by being in a cast and not being able to fight for awhile.
And finally, Mir got awful, awful advice from his camp (or from himself). He is not a walking around 275 pound man. He isn't Carwin..he isn't Lesnar. Mir cannot sit there and be effective against the two hulks at a stripped 265. Mir needed to be no more than 235 and use his quickness and subs as his advantage...not try to match them in weight because he isn't an inherent banger. Really, really dumb career move.
And if Dana has any heavyweight sense...which he has proved he hasn't at all and has become extremely lucky he has a division now...he needs to have Junior and Cain co headline the Lesnar/Carwin fight. In fact, he needs to make all 8 fights on the card heavies. Heavies will always bring in the public...and he needs to make a huge freaking heavyweight card. With those two headlining fight, it will be impossible not to drawn in the common man and there won't be any risk with potential dull fights with Struve, Cro Cop, and others on the card.Comment

Carwin didn't just get lucky, he knew what Mir does. We saw against Nog that Mir will come at you with a flurry of punches while moving forward in anticipation that you're going to back up from the punches and so he keeps coming forward throwing about 4 or 5 punches. Against Nog it worked perfectly because Nog backed up so Mir kept landing as he came forward. But last night when he tried it, instead of backing up, Carwin stood his ground and threw his own punches and stopped Mir from coming forward.Comment
